Who is interested in doing the Live Escape Game? There is also this one. We need to get a group of ten. To get the ball rolling, how about the afternoon before the main event. How about 4:00?
My buddy and I would be interested in this as well. I'm assuming you're referring to Saturday (5/16) at 4:00pm.
To the other confusion: I believe both the pub meetup and the craps pre-event were to be on Friday (5/15). Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's when I was planning to meet up at the Triple Seven Pub and play craps after.

Yes, I was referring to 5/16 at 4:00. You have to reserve a time and the cost is $35 each. Who is willing to commit? This means if you don't show up you'll still be on the hook for the $35.

I don't know when the craps meet-up is, as I don't even like craps. All I can say is the main thing is 6:00 at 5/16.

I commit for one spot.
We can have dinner elsewhere first, but that's where we'll meet.

My buddy and I are BOTH committed! This sounds like a lot of fun.

Perfect. Should be attending this as well.

I hope you get your money's worth out of it. Somehow, I see something like this happening!

Yeah probably unless the Wiz is creating the riddles LOL
Quote: WizardSeems there is not enough interest in the Live Room Escape.
Don't know what "enough" is, perhaps 10? The date proposed is Saturday, 5/16, tentative time 4pm.
In the thread I see
Maxpen
rudeboyoi
Romes + 1
Wizard
which is 5.
rdw4potus sounded interested but maybe did not see the "commit here" part yet.
So that's maybe 6.
I'll pay for 1 slot in absentia as a birthday present to the Wizard, if that makes the difference between Go and No Go; he's been interested in putting this adventure together for a couple months, and I would certainly go if I were in Vegas that week.
Anybody else who can go?

Not only that we have the rest of the week to see if another 4-5 people would be interested. I just saw this in the AM today =). I think we'll have at least a few more interested!
I've gotten clearance from Mrs. ten2win and work.
I'll be making the drive from Albuquerque tomorrow morning for the Friday and Saturday events.
I've procured an "economy" room for 3 nights at the 4 Queens @ the Casino Rate. (whatever economy means)
Add me to the head count!
Quote: ten2winI've procured an "economy" room for 3 nights at the 4 Queens @ the Casino Rate. (whatever economy means)
Probably in the North tower, facing Fremont St. If you intend to sleep before midnight, I suggest earplugs.
Quote: rudeboyoiWhat about playing some poker? Are we doing that this time?
I'd like to, provided someone is willing to sit next to me and explain how poker-room poker works.
I suppose we'll decide after dinner. The way I see it, with so many in one group, the only practical options are poker or craps.
Quote: PerditionWill there be a group drink in honor of BB King?
He died in his sleep last night at 9:40PM at the age of 89. RIP, a true legend. Wonder what Stevie Wonder has to say?
We meet up at the 777 Pub at MSS at 6 pm. Dinner either at the Pub or elsewhere, then craps at MSS, hopefully for $5.
And last reminder, from me anyway, for the Main Event:
We meet Saturday May 16th 2015 at 6 pm also at the 777 Pub for dinner, and what happens next is anyone's guess.

What does everyone think the line is on whether or not we complete it?
On the website it says there's been a 24% success rate.
I'd like to think we're better than that.

Quote: JohnnyQHey, don't leave us hanging. did the Team escape or what ? ? ?
Not with full honors. We had to have a couple hints and took about ten minutes too much.
It was our six and another foursome who pretty much took a back seat to our group. Romes seemed to take control of our group and figured out a lot of things. Let me try to explain the gist of the experience.
They "lock" the group in a room, although they said fire regulations prohibited them from really locking the door. Some of us thought that might have just been part of the act and all we had to do was simply walk through the unlocked door, but no, you were supposed to all go to a second connecting room and then properly escape from that one.
The story line I was was a disgruntled beauty pageant loser taking revenge on the other girls. As the story goes, the other girls were in this room previously and they left clues on how to at least get to a secondary room. However, the whole story line was pretty much a red herring and not relevant to escaping. Speaking of red herrings, there were all kind of things in the room and information given that had nothing to do with anything. The title of our escape was Atelophobia, which is the fear of imperfection.
The secondary room I like a lot better because it involved riddles like, "John has 22 red socks, 14 white socks, and 18 black socks. If he picks socks randomly, what is the least he needs to pick to have a matching pair." I'm good with stuff like that. This second room also involved a cast member but it was the same guy who had been giving us hints dressed in regular clothes. It would have been more fun it was someone pertinent to the story.
I would like to say that I'm glad they let us finish the game with an extra 10 minutes or so. He said that they recently changed to details to make it harder and we we got further than anybody else since this change. However, speaking just for myself, I left feeling kind of stupid. I think they could stand to make it a bit easier. Then again, this was the first time for all of us. If I ever do one of these again, and they have two other rooms to escape from, I'll be better prepared. I'm sure if I did escape I would complain it was too easy.
In closing, I'd like to say that I'd be happy to do this again. One drawback is the obscure location in an industrial area by the freeway that is confusing to navigate. It is near Treasures, if that point of reference helps anyone. If anyone wants to get a group together to do one of the other escapes -- one is based on the movie Saw and the other a Sherlock Holmes mystery, let me know -- I'm in.
Quote: odiousgambitcheck that spelling. I usually don't carp but that one is bugging me, sorry
D'oh! My only excuse is that my spell checker doesn't like the correct spelling either.
Obviously I don't fuffer from atelophobia when it comes to my spelling.

This one is easy. Since there are only three different colors, John needs to randomly pick four socks to guarantee he will have a matching pair.

Sorry I missed you guys. I would have like to meet ya'll. It's probably better though since I likely would have inundated Michael with questions.

Actually...
I am not clear how the hints work. Do you just give up and ask for help, or does the game master provide them as he sees fit?
Was there a trivia contest at the restaurant?
If my hunch is correct, they need to slightly rephrase the question. "If he picks socks randomly, what is the least number he needs to pick to guarantee he will have a matching pair."
Quote: AyecarumbaWas there a trivia contest at the restaurant?
Yes, but I don't have the list of questions/answers.
Nareed got the highest number of points but as a previous winner was not eligible for the 1st place prize. That went to rdw4potus. I can't remember who received the 2nd and 3rd place prizes, and I think there might have been a minor after-the-fact controversy about the grading.
While wandering through Harrah's this afternoon, I came up with a multi-part trivia question that won't likely show up on any quiz:
In Harrah's, there is a statue of a couple of outrageous folks with money dripping out of their pockets, suitcase, etc.
(a) What are the names of these two characters?
(b) How do we know their names?
(c) They are accompanied by their pet poodle. What is the dog's name?
(d) What is the name of the statue, perhaps drawn from the couple's last name?
(No fair checking photos for the answers!)
The escape game was really fun. While I'd have to agree with the Wizard that there was a LOT of red haring information, I think we did pretty well at figuring most of it out. The caps lock issue had us running short on time and a bit flustered. I actually think with JUST our group we might have done better. The other 4 were decent players, but kind of hectic and chaotic, especially with the trivia.
I went back to read a trivia question that was something to the sort: If you have a 10 ft long chain and you nail the two ends next to each other, how long will the chain dangle from top to bottom? Before I finished reading the question 2 of the 3 chained to the wall (all 3 were from the 'other' group) yelled out it's 2.5! The answer is 2.5 hurry we don't have time! I asked if they were sure instead of ignoring them to think on my own for a minute, which of course anyone whom ponders for a minute can tell the answer is
So I got it wrong, while it didn't really matter anyways since we only had about 3 minutes left to get the 3 remaining questions AND then watch the final video and put the final hint together (which we did very quickly anyways).
Like I said though, overall the game was a lot of fun and I'm glad we did it!

First shot shows NicksGamingStuff (who isn't so active on the forum any more but who does come to the gatherings), ncfatcat (whom I had never met before and who is from NC like RaleighCraps and me), and Nareed (who has become a serious regular at these annual flings:
Second shot shows (more or less) the incognito Scottimus1, the Wizard, and the similarly-incognito Romes. Of course, I could have the first and third of these mixed up, since their disguises are so effective and since I had only met them for the first time just the night before:
Third one (and this is probably the worst focus of all) shows rudeboyoi, MrV, and the partially-hidden MaxPen. This was the first time I had met MaxPen, but I had met rudeboyoi at the 2015 Winter Event, and MrV has become a regular at the spring gatherings:
The fourth shot shows ten2win (who seems to be having much more fun than any of the others in these photos), Doc (since ncfatcat snapped the photo), rdw4potus (who has been attending since way back at the WoVCon I in June 2011), and TomG (whom I met for the first time at this gathering):
I can't remember whether it has been noted already in this thread, but ten2win introduced several of us to a new (to us) restaurant, the Triple George Grill, right across 3rd Street from the Downtown Grand. On Friday evening ten2win, Nareed, rdw4potus, my wife and I had dinner there and really enjoyed it. The same group, less ten2win who had already headed home, gathered there again for dinner on Sunday evening. We discussed that this might be a great venue for a future WoV gathering, with gaming to be held at the Downtown Grand, which is where the group had headed to anyway on Saturday evening after the main event gathering at MSS.
The Triple George Grill is a little pricier than the 777 Brew Pub, but I think the extra is well worth it. On Sunday evening we observed their ability to handle a group slightly larger than our typical group size, since there was a birthday party going on right next to us. I think the only real downside I noticed to the Triple George was the occasional overwhelming noise blasts from the apparently-unmufflered Harley-Davidson bikes departing the Hogs and Heifers bar next door.
As we left the place on Friday evening, Nareed had commented that Hogs and Heifers was just like something out of the old west, except the row of bikes out front should have been horses instead. Then, Saturday evening rdw4potus noted that in the afternoon he had seen a row of horses tied in that exact same spot! Really! That comment prompted ncfatcat to pull out his phone and show us the photo he had taken of that sight!
Anyway, here are two more photos from the main event to show that everyone was really gathered at the table together at the same time, at least everyone except the geezer holding the camera:
