my casino is giving me $100 slot play or $125 in promo chips every week in Feb.

I am surprised at the higher value for promo chips.

my initial thought was take the $100 slotplay and play $0.50 8/5 JoB.
then again, $25 don't pass + max odds (10x)??

edit:
chips on even $ wagers only

What kind of promo chips? Non negotiable promo chips, meaning you keep them until a loss, I would take the chips. If they are the kind where casino takes chips win or loss, and only rewards you with winning wager chips, I would take the free play.

I second the above.

Chips if they're non-negs/"play until you lose", free play if they're promo/"one decision only".

1 slight adjustment to that.

Even if the casino takes the chips win or loss, but you can bet them on anything (not just even money bets), I would still take the chips and bet them on a single inside number straight up on roulette. You get > 90% of face value this way.

As has been pointed out, It's important to know what kind of promo chips they are to make the decision.

If they're lousy like I get out here (taken on decision, match play chips), I want the free play.
If they're just giving you regular chips with your buy-in (which has happened at at least one place), I'll take the chips.
If they're play until lose, I'll take the chips.
May the cards fall in your favor.

Why would you care about the odds? And why $25 on the line? Depends on what the minimum is, too (kind of). If everything is $25 min, then you only got a couple shots at winning. If you just care about EV (and are OK with ending up with $0 on that $125 promo chips), then that's different.

It's free. I take the slot play and play it in the highest denomination machine that will cover the wager, ie $100 free play = 1 $100 pull on a $100 machine, or 2 $50 pulls on a $25 machine.

Hell, I'd never do that with actual money, why not take the shot on a hand pay? On a lot of them all you need is mixed bars to get $1000.

That's ridiculous. Unless, of course, your goal is to get a handpay (and your goal is not to maximize your return/money).

my objective is to play for optimum fun.

best game at my casino is $5 98.9% deuces wild. but I only get 4 spins with $100.

.50/$1 vp have the same lousy paytables but I usually play $0.50 8/5 JoB w/freeplay.
optimum between house edge and # of spins I get.

so i got $250 freeplay in a drawing.

decided to play $0.05 50hand 8/5 JoB.

boy, was that a mistake.
at $12.50 a spin, I might as well played $1 8/5 triple play progressive where the jackpots were $5.5k, 4.5k, and 4.5k.

walked away with only 70% :(

Naw, I play for fun too. It's a stone cold blast, punching that button for all the money.

I get it, advantage play. But it's just a different way of enjoying life. And, on the $100 Wheel of Fortune, if you blank out its worth 1 credit, so you can cash out your Benjamin. The thing pays back pretty high most places.

I would say if you're doing slot play for that small of an amount, you need to pick a machine where you WON'T risk getting a hand pay. Do you really want a W-2G?

1 credit pay for blank-blank-blank is OK, but there are a lot of ways to not get a blank in every slot.

Some of us red-chipper types prefer to get something in the 95-180% range, instead of the 0-1000% range.

I suspect you get more in promo chips because of a higher minimum bet level. As a result, you're subjected to the variance faster. If you take the slot play, it's probably a lower variance (certainly if you can bet less).

If the point of this thread is to discuss maximizing the EV, then this is ridiculous. We must absolutely know what kind of promo chips they are, as that affects the value of the chips tremendously (as has been noted by the posters before me).

Now if the point is to discuss maximum fun, then that is subjective and carry on; but it seems like you know best what is the most "fun" to you.
