Wow, sorry to hear this. I've enjoyed your posts. Good reading. You will be missed :-(
How did your email get out?
I post over at Why We Protest - an anti scientology board.
got doxxed over there, scientology is ruthless.
I post under terapined over there as well.
Well scientology retaliated by respondig to a post with my actual true name.
The admins over there quickly removed that post.
It didn't surprise me, I'm sure scientology has a file on me. They have a file on all the critics.

This is not good news at all -a re they selling an email list?
The Wiz said: "When the site was sold it did include this database of Email addresses. It is standard when you buy a web site that it comes with all the code and member databases. However, I asked the new owner to comment about this issue. He said that the policy to not sell or give the Email list to third parties would remain in effect. In the future, there may be a newsletter, but it would have a simple one-click opt-out policy for anybody that doesn't want it."
Would be nice to have some more info so we can do a little investigating.

That is correct. And it has been 3 months since the purchase and we have not sent a single newsletter yet. That is currently not our priority but yes at some point we will start sending monthly newsletters with an opt out option.
Quote: Zcore13Unless it's something different then what came up last month, I think it's the new owners emailing members in an attempt to get people to sign up with Bovada through their affiliate link. That is not selling of the emails. That is them doing marketing to their current client base, which they (over)paid 2.4 million dollars for.

We have not emailed a single member of WOV/WOO.
So no we r not doing the email marketing to the current client base ( which is relatively small given the number of registered forum members ).
We did not pay $2.35mil so we can "spam" ppl or "sell" their emails.
But Ill say again, at some point we will start sending newsletters with the unsubscribe option.
Quote: aladyat42Seems fair to me, ZUGA.. See I did spell it correct !

Quote: strictlyAPI use an email address for this site that I have never used for a single other thing- any idea how I could get gambling related email to this email address?
No idea. Who was the sender? Can you attach the email you received please?
want. When I sign up for anything I use
an email I set up 15 years ago just for that,
and I never go there. I can't say 'never',
if they send a password I go and get that.

OK by me too, whatever. If I am not interested, I guess I'll just have to figure out where the delete key is. No big deal.

Can we opt out pre-emptively? ;)
Quote: strictlyAPI use an email address for this site that I have never used for a single other thing- any idea how I could get gambling related email to this email address?
Does it only get gambling related emails? I have a gmail account I've never used at all and it still gets spam for porn, penis pills, porn, online casinos, and porn.
I was drawn to this site, by the opportunity to read some of Wiz's expertise comments and maybe pick up some published AP opportunities along the way, although usually by the time such opportunities are published, they have wound down. Over my year or two here, I have come to appreciate and learn a few things from a couple other AP members....that's always a bonus.
Now, the truth is that if this site was owned and run by a company involved in online gambling, when I joined, I would not have joined. And I do see some risk in staying. While on surface there is a definite distinction between on line casinos and the brick and mortar casinos where I make my living, that line or distinction is being blurred as brick and mortar casinos venture into online opportunities. Who knows what future mergers or buyout could make the two even closer 'bedfellows'. But the protection, I have is that, I am only exposed through a throw-away email address and possibly IP address. I didn't hand over my ID for them to scan, a we do in brick and mortar casinos.

This is illegal under Canadian Law.
"Canadian sites should also check their notification table and the customers newsletter settings to be sure email are not sent for those without first contacting those customers and requesting their approval or just clear all of those settings."
If this site is hosted in the US you will find that your hosting company will ask you to show them prove of prior consent to receive the newsletter.

They could probably just configure things to put it in our PM boxes.
Hehe, I'll trade you for a link to a, "shocking diet secret doctor's don't want you to know" and a list of "five foods you should never eat before going to bed"Quote: DrawingDeadJust checked the 'virtual dumpster' email addy I use for this site and similar things, and was disappointed to find that I'm not important enough to get that or any recent gambling related spam. Can I trade a never used message about an offer for herbal breast enlargement for someone's gambling promo?
Quote: rxwineThey could probably just configure things to put it in our PM boxes.
Are they going to do it manually, clicking on each email one at a time.?
They need to use the hosting company broadcast software to send out 3000 email at one go.
Anyway it is still considered as spam and is illegal.
However, shockingly, I can tell you that the NYC welfare department sells your address to junk mail organizations.
About seven years ago I was kicked out of where I was staying (I had lost my employment so no surprise).
I began sending all my mail to a post office box but welfare has this rule that you must have some residency to get assistance (that probably has to do with you being locatable for correspondence issues but it also contributes to homeless begging so much in NYC.
Anyway, Convinced an ex-girlfriend to let me use her address for welfare and this was the only mail I expected to arrive there.
Suddenly one month later I am getting advertisements for subscriptions to parenting magazines and credit card offers. Yes, the NYC welfare department sells home addresses to credit card companies, hmm!!

Life's too short for that. Direction, man. I think it's obvious from the stuff on the ground.
Are the online gambling sites of positive value, does the Wizard play there, or has he endorsed them since 1997? I doubt it.
What's the difference between money, and real money? Will we win more at those sites?
How often have you downloaded the stuff, created an account, only to discover no promised bonuses? And so on.
It will take more than a silly hat to convince me.
I've done that. Not lately, but some years ago before the web & email was everywhere and physical mail was still the norm I used some spelling variations of my name when information was requested to see who sold me to what. And one of the three major credit reporting agencies for some reason always has used a slight variation in my name and I know without opening the envelope when something comes from a buyer of Transunion's database.Quote: SOOPOOThis reminds me of prank I played in early 1980's. I filled out a card you find on the NYC subway for trucking school or something like that, but instead of using real first name we made up the name Nuktib xxxxxxx. So 'Nuktib' got a response from the school, which he of course ignored. But soon thereafter he was getting lots of other junk mail addressed to Nuktib. It was clear that the trucking school was selling his name and address.....
But I don't think it would be as much a clear confirmation in the case of email accounts to get something in a segregated special purpose email account address. Some junk email appears to me to occasionally come from a random blast of possible letter and number combinations to see what sticks to the wall, since the economics of marketing through the free transmission of email are different than paying for postage, and more like the automated "random digit dialing" some surveys do. A clue to that has been when they try addressing a name in the body of the message; say if my name was "Robert" and the address was Rxxxxx1234@email and it arrives addressing "Rachel."
If I have something arrive that raises concerns for me, I'll probably start by posing the question: "Did anybody else here also just get [description of email message]..." I haven't had anything that seems possibly similar or related to whatever concerned the OP. Sounds like others haven't either.

I was at a golf tournament and filled out a form in one of the tents in exchange for a free pack of cigarettes. My friend had asked me because I didn't smoke and he wanted the cigarettes. For last name I wrote Pidd and, you guessed it, first name Stu. This was obviously a long time ago, tobacco at a sporting event and all. The airhead models working the tent had no clue. I actually thought I may have met the future Mrs. Pidd.
I gave my friend's real address and phone and, sure enough, the calls and mail started coming for Mr. Stu Pidd. Back then there were no merciless telemarketers. no spoofing or anything like we have today. My friend was happy because he got lots of coupons in the mail.

This is true. Lots of sites and companies had to send out requests this year to keep us on their newsletters. "Please click the button below if you wish to continue to receive our awesome newsletters". You can technically no longer send anything unsolicited to a Canadian, so be very very careful. :)
Like anyone is going to do anything about it...
I also entirely believe the new owners when they said they wouldn't sell/trade/give away the Email list.

This not to prove them wrong, which they are, but so we can forward such email to the casino Rep just in case someone is using the good name of WOO to spam.
Ill repeat on last time. We did not sell your emails to any 3rd party, nor we will. We did not spend all this money on purchase of these sites so we can sell couple of thousand of emails at what ever the price is per email. I would be surprised if you could get low 5 figures for it.
We also do not spam, and as you can tell no person at this forum has received anything from us. There will be a newsletter down the road with one click opt out. Simple enuff.

Apparently you don't believe what I said.
But when you do go down the road you will find that your hosting company will not allow you to do this.
You need to keep up to date with the latest changes regarding spam.

How about no spam? It's silly to have to opt out of stuff you were never signed up for.
Why would anyone here be interested?
