I only visited railroad pass once, I think it was my first year living in Vegas. I didn't have a car or a driver at the time, and was using public transportation. The Bus that goes to Boulder, NV, stops at Railroad pass each hour. Worked out just about right, because an hour was just about the right amount of time for a visit there. lol. My interpretation was that it was a cross between a truck stop and a VERY local casino. If employees didn't know you and your name, you were out of place. Also I was in my late 20's at the time and this made me even more out of place. Wasn't a sole in the place that wasn't on social security or a truck driver. Not that there's anything wrong with that....Just made me stand out.

I think MGM got it with the same portfolio that included the the Gold Strike in Jean, another notorious dump. Not sure how that got those, maybe some kind of add-on with the Mandalay Resorts deal.

Actually, the northbound buses left about 30 minutes after the southbound ones arrived, so either you stayed there for 30 minutes or 90.
RTC changed the routes a couple of years ago - the bus that goes to Railroad Pass now starts at downtown and runs on I-515 to Fiesta Henderson (with a turnoff at Sunset Station), then it gets on 93 after stopping at ElDorado. It's still an hourly route.

That may be. I can't say for sure whether I was there 30 minutes or 90 minutes. If I had to guess, I would say 30. :/
Wow, sure wish I had that hour or so of my life back.
What am absolute hell hole: perhaps the shabbiest casino I've ever been in, and I've seen some lousy tribal joints.
And the strong odor of cigarette smoke: uh, "memorable," and NOT in a good way.
I also had no clue that MGM owned this POS; you wouldn't know it to visit the joint.
Quote: kewljTo be honest I had no idea MGM even owned Railroad Pass Casino. I can't imagine how that even came to be. Doesn't seem logical.
Apparently you didn't follow Doc's "Casino Chip of the Day" thread. Doc definitely mentioned it.

I kind of like the Gold Strike. I always end up there when I leave the Pioneer Saloon in Goodsprings to use the bathroom before heading back into Vegas. And where else in America can you get a "Gold Strike Lager"?
I look forward to what they might try to do with it.
No reason I'd go back.
Quote: thecesspitWent there once for my friend to collect a chip, and hit an absolutely stellar run of cards at Blackjack. Turn $25 into $150. Which is a nice return. Only place I've ever been asked and checked up on when cashing out a black chip.

I was checked up on for cashing out 8 greens at the Hacienda.
Quote:Next stop was RailRoad pass. I stopped there primarily because, on the way to the dam, there was a train passing behind it, and I thought it would have made a good picture, if I was quicker with the camera. How's that for a stupid reason to stop?
There's only about 6 tables in their one pit. I didn't bother to check the BJ tables. The one craps table was $1 minimum, $200 maximum, no 25¢ chips. It was was staffed by 2 dealers and a stick. It was NOT full double odds. Just double. Of course, the crew would suggest that I could increase my pass line bet if I wanted to increase the odds.
For that it's worth, the railroad that travels behind it is nothing more that a tourist attraction of it's own:
The Nevada State Railroad Museum.
When I first seen this. I was thinking, 6 units up is considered stellar?Quote: thecesspitWent there once for my friend to collect a chip, and hit an absolutely stellar run of cards at Blackjack. It took me a second, but I'll now assume you were playing less than $25 a hand?
@2 bucks a hand, great run indeed.
good one.Quote: onenickelmiracleRailroad is buying Revel. Heard it's a done deal.
