My last trip to Las Vegas, I hit a royal flush on Pai Gow at the Rio. I won $1500 on my $10 fortune, and $500 on my $1 progressive. Four purples. After playing a while longer, I pushed forward my chips to color up. She handed me back my purples, and I told her that I wanted yellows for them. She, along with the floor person, warned me against coloring up to yellow because I might face trouble trying to cash them out due to a recent robbery. I said as long as the floor person knew I won the chips, I'd take my chances, and was given two yellows. After taking a snapshot, I took them directly to the cage to cash out, and got no grief whatsoever (though the cashier did ask to see my rewards card).
It was the only time I've held anything bigger than a purple. My goal for my next trip is to make it to a flag.
So what's your record? Brag away.

I've had multiple (well, two) of the brown $5k chips. I didn't have to ask for them; it's just what they gave me when I colored up. If you are cashing out $10k+ they are not going to color you up to a handful of yellows.
Unfortunately I've never cashed out for more than $15k from a table game so I've not had any reason to be given larger chips (I almost always play on credit, so I'm only ever taking my profit, if any, from the table)
100 dollar chip cashing out at a table game.
Dealer tried to give me a chocolate ($5K) one time. Boss was like "trust me you don't want that you won't be a..." and I'm like "Yeah I know, I want purples."
I see some people mentioned brown for 5K chips. What is the progression beyond that?
But I did have a big chip on my shoulder one time.
The only things I've seen larger than that were square plaques, white, for 100K, but did not see them in play.
Quote: beachbumbabsPurples. And very happy to have them every time I've gotten them.
Really? With all the side bets you play you've never hit anything big? No 5-figure payouts?
Quote: petroglyphThe biggest chip I ever cashed out was a green.
Who did you steal it from?

I've always wondered how they keep plaques in the tray. The tray must me custom made, I take it? Do you remember?

$5000+ isn't very standardized color-wise. Brown, grey and white are probably most popular.

Nope. Best I've done was a RF at PaiGow, Mirage, this April, for 1500. The month before that, first RF, for 750, Hard Rock. After 22 years of playing the game. I've dealt RF's to other players 8 times while banking, though.
I would LOVE (of course) to see a 5 figure payoff; from your lips to the card god's ears.

Geez, even I hit quads for $10k at MS Stud once. Not technically a side bet, but, really, that whole game is one big side bet.

I gave them a total of 3 hours on that game, betting correct strategy at $5 ante, just to give the game a chance. I'm down $1800 lifetime, and the dealer at Margaritaville said he'd never seen such a crap run in his life. I've never had more than 3OAK on the game. Guess I don't have the tolerance for extreme volatility I thought I did.
Although she could easily handle it, I helped her walk it to the cage.
We got a check for $12K, and the rest in cash - and then hit the floor. Woo hoo!
same trip - ended up leaving after 4 days with the equivalent of 39 gray.
and yes - I was shaking like an epileptic when I was heading back to the room after the single best session of my life. prior historical trip max hauls were around 6 gray.

Gray = $5,000?

Same with me - in fact, it happened on my last trip about three months ago. I'll bet a green on occasion (usually 5x odds in Craps on a $5 pass, or $30 a hand if I can't find a blackjack table under $25), but never anything higher.
Unfortunately I didn't hold it for too long, didn't even try to take a picture of it.
At that time all I wanted was running to the cage and cash it.

What was the value? How long ago was this? Do any places still use plaques?
Quote: DeucekiesWhat was the value? How long ago was this? Do any places still use plaques?
Yes, some places still use plaques I believe. It was more than 7 years ago.
I will omit the value here, it was more than 5K for sure.

That surely does resemble 150,200. In my dreams....the aggregate table limit would kick in everywhere I've played before I could win that.
Edit: read those wrong, maybe? are they thousands or 5 thousands? Must be thousands, for 34,200?

Didn't you do really well on a cruise once or something?
I have seen a blue $25k chip being played though at Caesars and the equivalent watermelon at Aria.

Ya, I was about to ask about that :) Zoom in, the oranges are $1000.
Those are the ugliest $1000 chips I have ever seen. Not that I would turn them down....

I've been the queen of the boat twice, but never hit one big hit like you've talked about. They overcomped me outrageously on the Epic crossing last year because I was bringing so much business to the table, it was like I worked for them. It might be that story you're thinking of; think I told it on here about a year ago.

Pretty sure 34,200

Edit: (Queen of the Boat is what I call myself, somewhat derisively, when I'm the biggest player on board over the course of the cruise. It usually doesn't take much to be the high roller.)

I vaguely remember the story. I think you said that you had just gotten divorced, and you were in the mood to gamble significantly bigger than you usually do. And you just couldn't lose. Also I think that you were tipping really well, or giving the dealers gifts, or something.
Quote: RigondeauxI used to work for "the corporation" in CA, so whatever the biggest chips they use there are. It's funny because you get so blase about it, I can't remember. I want to say $1,000. Most total in chips I've walked around with is probably around $40k, which was more than I made in a year.
Yeah, gambling totally screws with your idea of what is a lot of money. It also makes your friends think that you are completely insane.
But here's proof that I gambled at least one time.
The biggest chip I've held is a $5,000 chip at the Wynn. But the most chips I've carried in a rack was over $20,000 worth of purple at the Silverton.
This is the wad of cash I got from the cage at the Wynn after cashing out a $5,000 chip. I didn't take a photo because I was too busy talking to Chad in the pit.
And here's some chips from cashing out at Mandalay Bay.
To be perfectly honest, it's pretty darn rare that I have more than $1,000 on the felt at a time. But I've got it up there many times. It's just that I play a lot, so it's more often that I don't and just come in and out with a couple hundred.

+1, LOL, so true!
Quote: AhighOne more pic is the collector edition (one of each chip). This was taken before I had ever touched a $5,000 chip at the Wynn. I meant to do another with the $5,000 chip included, but I haven't done that still.
Interesting photo. It looks as if Wynn stuck with the Paulson chips up through the $500 denomination but might have changed to another vendor for the $1,000 chip. The shape of the black edge inserts on the yellow chip looks just like the edge inserts that Gemaco uses on their chips, but the rest of the chip doesn't look like a Gemaco chip. I don't think I have ever seen a Gemaco chip with text molded into the perimeter, but I've also never seen edge inserts of that shape from another manufacturer. I'd like to see one of those up close enough to examine it.
At that time my high limit was a red. I almost asked to get into his game. AHHH to be 21 again.
Quote: DeucekiesWhat was the value? How long ago was this? Do any places still use plaques?
I have seen plaques played many times at Crown Casino in Melbourne. Smallest is $25k with $100k, $500k and $1m being the highest I've seen. They most likely have higher than $1m but I haven't see one. They sit in an extra compartment off to the side of the main rack. Kind of like a bucket with a plastic lid over it.
The most I've ever actually seen bet was a guy on baccarrat betting up to $500k per hand. Normal bet was probably $200k but he went up to $500k a few times while I was watching. The last time I was there I saw someone betting up to $300k with an additional up to $50k on each of a player and banker perfect pairs side bet. So up to $400k total.

I believe that $1,000 and up are still Paulson but with RFID. I know that's the case across the street at the Venetian/Palazzo. Generally you know when they do that because they require a player card in order to obtain one of those chips. Both the Wynn and Palazzo require a card to give out the yellow.
RFID Paulson's are more expensive, but they seem identical to the player (at least to this player who hasn't picked over them too much).
When I had the $5,000 chip at Wynn, it was white and DIRTY!! LOL.
