Seventeen years after Ron Goldman's mother won a $9 million ( Vegas news reports it could be 33 million )wrongful death judgment against O.J. Simpson, she is auctioning off the rights to the unpaid settlement.
Rufo has now placed her judgment on the online auction site www.judgmentmarketplace.com. With 10% interest, the value of that judgment has swelled to nearly $24.7 million, according to the website. The winner of the auction will have the right to pursue Simpson for the money, but they might not be able to get it.
There's no minimum bid for the judgment, according to JudgmentMarketplace owner Shawn Porat, but anyone can buy it outright, immediately, for $1 million. He said hundreds of potential buyers have signed on to check out the Simpson judgment, but there are no bids yet.
The auction will be open for another 29 days, but the judgment expires in less than three years, on March 10, 2017.
Michael Brewer, the lawyer representing Rufo in the lawsuit, said that Simpson still has money, but it's tough to wrest it away from him.
"He receives a fair amount of money each month from his pension with the NFL," said Brewer, but it's extremely difficult to pension income. "It's protected under federal law," he said.
Simpson is now serving time after being arrested in 2007 for a gunpoint robbery of sports memorabilia at a Las Vegas hotel room. He was convicted the following year of 12 charges including kidnapping and sentenced to up to 33 years.
He will be eligible for parole in 2017 -- the same year that the wrongful death judgment against him expires.
Simpson won't necessarily by off the hook after the judgment expires, Brewer said, because it can be renewed.

They couldn't get anything from him before he was railroaded in Vegas, so I don't see anything coming after he gets out. I believe he gets $25,000 a month from the NFL and as stated, it cannot be touched.
He was hounded by Rufo and Goldman for any other money he tried to make so he really had no other income. There was little demand for his autographs and promoters wouldn't hire him because of the problems it caused.
The only person who has made money off OJ in the past 10 years is Jackie Glass, who used his name to get a TV show after sentencing him far above what he should have gotten as payback for something she thinks happened in 1994.

Seems the Goldman family is foolish being so consumed with the money. About time they let this go for their own well being.

I don't know about that.
But hounding Simpson until he dies is simple justice.

Buy the debt.
Offer OJ a million dollars to give you a video confession.
Put a lien on the payment so that you get it back as part of his debt.
Sell the video for many millions of dollars.

At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.

$25k a month? Are you sure that that isn't off by an order of magnitude? That's $300k a year.

Well it's not like the family doesn't keep the wound open all this time. It's better just moving on rather than trying to hold up some vow in vain. This is the Goldman's life story: having a normal life, son murdered, spent rest of life getting money for it with no freedom to grow and move on being stuck in the trap they could not break free. To Hell with the other victim and her children being robbed by them. Either way justice cannot be continuous without continuing to hurt them as well, so I say they're foolish.Quote: NareedI don't know about that.

Ok that makes more sense
Quote:Simpson's $300,000-a-year income is from his enterprise Orenthal Productions. Goldman's attorneys dismissed Simpson's National Football League pension, which would amount to a few thousand dollars a month, as insignificant.
