Now, I grew up in Florida and lived 8 years in Philadelphia before finding my way to Vegas 5 years ago, so I know a little about humidity. I know enough to know that I shouldn't be complaining about 45-50% humidity. But let's face it....I am spoiled. We are used to 3-5% humidity. When it gets up to 50% @ 105 degrees, like today it is draining and just gross. Let's hope this little monsoonal period where our weather is coming up from Mexico is short lived.
Oh yeah, that's the other thing...rain! we have been getting rain around the Valley for several nights now. .12 inch there. 1/4 inch here. Funny thing on the news 2 nights ago. Flamingo and Boulder highway had severe flooding issues....total rainfall for that area....13/100 of an inch. I have yet to figure out how that happens. ???
I've been to Vegas about 20 times and have hit some kind of weather more than a few times - the best was the 2008 snowstorm....

J, do you adjust your playing schedule based on the weather? Just curious, as you can technically do your job at any time, 24 hours a day. But I'm sure you've discovered some times are better than others for getting the good conditions. I imagine it's a delicate balance of heat (from the pit) vs. crowds. Lots of people around = easier to fly under the radar, but too many tourists eating your high cards.
"But, its a dry heat" and I say, it's dry in the oven too, but that doesn't mean I will stick my head in it.
Flooding can vary on many factors but two that I know of are the slope/grade of the ground surface, and the porosity of the ground/soil to absorb water. I don't know the geography of those regions... But if they are not properly sloped to divert water to drains/ditches... Or worse if the surrounding land all slopes down to a point/valley ... And/or if the ground material is hard rocks (and not soil) (I honestly don't know the absorptive capacity of sand)... These all might be factors.
