Every time I visit a casino, I see people with some sort of little trinket item or something that they believe is lucky.

For one friend, he believes the shoes he wears brings him luck. For another friend, a Rotary engine keychain supposedly brings luck.

I would only go gambling when I was wearing a certain polo shirt I had; the only thing is, I lost every time I wore it. After visiting LV, I now am starting to think that my 50 cent pieces from blackjack might be lucky.

Being a strategy player, I know that luck has nothing to with it. It's all just statistics and probability; but still, a little superstition never hurt. ;)

My question is, do you have a little lucky trinket, and does it work for you? :-)

I believe this is a paraphrase/misquote from a Heinlein work, but: "I knew a man once who'd turn his hat around when he sat down to a game of cards. It didn't matter that the hat wasn't magical, and he knew it, but it's what he did to bring himself luck."

Do I think it works? No. Do I think it hurts? No. Does it bring peace of mind to the player? Yes? Then why not. If my horoscope says that sitting at seat 2 is lucky, then I'll sit there in a heads-up game of BJ.

We called them Schleprock's. Usually bonus hustlers guys that would hang around during plays. Or the forever but out Rail Birds.

We had one guy (quite a entertaining character )on our team, he was outspoken to say the least, he would go into a rant when one particular Bonus hustler showed up on notable plays. Our teammate kept complaining to him and calling him a black cat, Shleprock, black cloud, after he would start losing tons of money fast.

For some reason all the the guys that are accused of being black cats seem to be involved in horse betting.

My girlfriends son made me a green $25 casino chip looking thing out of a rubber band toy set. I attach it to my players card. Might be called Crazy Loom or something? I have had pretty good luck with that. So then he made me a black $100 rubber band chip. I had terrible luck with that. So I leave that one at home.

Superstition and belief in luck runs rampant in casinos, whether it's a lucky shirt, or not saying "four" or "seven".

I just find it interesting how the average person associates winning with being lucky, when in fact, it's probably more so variance.

Not a specific lucky item, but after being paid on a pass line winner I will always leave the original chip on the line and collect the winning chip (since the original chip was "lucky" enough to win).

Seems to work about half the time. ;)

Prevalent in games with Asian followings like Baccarat and Pai Gow. The word for "four" in Japanese and (I think) Chinese sounds like the word for "death" in their respective languages, and the number four is hence regarded as an unlucky number, much like our thirteen. If you go to a Baccarat table, you'll notice there is no seat 4 on it.

Even when seat 4 is numbered seat 5, players are still wary of sitting in it. The 4th seat is the likeliest to be open if you need to use a matchplay coupon.

I have heard the death thing when I worked for a real estate developer, in Asian communities we had to fight like mad to get addresses without 4's.

Odd thing is 4 and 13 are my "lucky" numbers, go figure.

At the craps table, I am ALWAYS calling for 4, and of course, I always have a bet on it.

Some communities in Cali are even allowing buildings to change their street numbers (if there's 'room' in the numbering to do so) for a hefty surcharge.

For similar reasons, 8s are lucky, and congratulations to whoever manages to get 168.
