Are you afraid of losing, nervous to lose or no emotion at all and ready for whatever outcome? I am personally a little shall we say, apprehensive..
Quote: mdsAre you afraid of losing under theses circumstances... You haven't lost substantially (30-100% of bankroll) in many, many trips and you have an upcoming trip. You are risking your entire bankroll of 2k or 30k doesn't matter as it is all relative . You know you wont lose more than that amount. And You know you are due to lose. You know your luck could run out at anytime. Nobody wants to lose no matter how much money you have. -EV in the game you play. House Edge is between 1-2% depending on your particular play.

if you are afraid then you shouldn't be playing. It sucks to lose but if you lose all of your money and you regret it then it is money that shouldn't have been used. Especially if you are playing a -ev game. You are expected to lose so how could you be upset when the truth happens?

If the edge is big enough to go big or bust why not? Although it would depend on whether or not you have family to care for but there are varying amounts of risk I am willing to shoulder for the possible reward:
100% loss rebates: I will mortgage the farm
Quote: Lemieux66I picked nervous, but it all depends on how big the bet is in relation to your bankroll.
If you are going to go that route then it wouldn't necessarily be to your current bankroll but to your replenish-ability of the bankroll.
If you make 50k a year but you have 20k saved up and you blow through that then you are in a world of hurt trying to get that gambling money built back up.
If you make 200k a year and blow through 20k then you have a pretty good chance to have the new bankroll in a few months.

My brain does not malfunction in this way.
Quote: mds. And You know you are due to lose. ..
According to this train of thought I need to go to the Casino!!! I've had several losing trips in a row so I'm due to win!!!!!
I also keyed in on this statement.Quote: mds... And You know you are due to lose. ...
Does that mean it's a -EV game, so losing is normal?
Or does it mean that you've had a few winning trips and now expect to lose because the universe has to "even itself out" ?
I hope you meant the former.
As far as the poll / original question goes, I hope to win, but won't be too upset if I lose. Even if I lose it all. If I couldn't afford to lose it all, I wouldn't have brought that much.
1) How often would you bring 100% of your bankroll to one game?
2) How often would you play a -EV game?
3) How often would you do both of the above?
EDIT: Clarified the question.
Quote: DeucekiesAs a non-AP, I ask these three questions:
1) How often would you bring 100% of your bankroll to one game?
2) How often would you play a -EV game?
3) How often would you do both of the above?
Are you asking an AP or a non-AP?
A non-AP does not have a bankroll. He has an entertainment budget which gets replenished from outside sources from time to time.

Apologies. I was just about to edit my post. I am asking APs.
That's what I was thinking when I read the OP. The way I see it, an AP wouldn't play the game if it's -EV, certainly not with his whole bankroll. And a non-AP doesn't have a bankroll in the first place.

I think APs do play -EV games from time to time, but for small (to them) stakes. There is nothing wrong with occasionally putting $100 into a penny slot machine because you like the bonus game. It's no different from paying $100 to go to a concert.
An AP who plays -EV games for large (to them) stakes probably has a gambling problem. If you are making $100k / year at blackjack and losing $90k / year at craps, that's not a good thing.
Welcome To Fruita ! Different story if you are playing $10 eight ball in a strange bar with $5 in your pocket. Or at 10 minutes to closing time, with a shirt pocket full of 5's and 10's, sobering up enough to realize you are the only white face in the poolroom/ bar and 2 guys are only holding the butt end of 2 piece cues !
Afraid of losing money ? Then don't bet. DUH !!!

I figured this thread was about me but then read mds post about losing low six figures
For me, nervous, of course
Quote: mdsAnd You know you are due to lose..... House Edge is between 1-2% depending on your particular play.
If the house edge is that, you should be playing purely for fun and expecting to lose. When playing for fun, I wouldn't have any emotion, but then I wouldn't go with a big bankroll either.
Quote: mdsLost the first 13 out of 14 wagers.. Got killed right off the bat. Hard to want to play after that. Won some but mostly lost. One of those trips. First trip in MANY that I lost that much. As always I was prepared to lose but obviously tried not to. Lost about 35% of this trips bankroll.
Your bankroll was about $300,000 then? Quite a bankroll. What do you play usually?
Typically, the wife and I will head to the casino with a budget in mind. Back when we lived in PA, we went to AC for the weekend. Now we live in OR and we either head to a local tribal casino (usually a day trip, maybe an overnighter) or to LV for a 3- or 4-night stay.
In all of those cases, we set a budget for our gambling, usually not much more than a few hundred dollars per person per day. Maybe $1K for a 3-day trip to LV between us. Weather permitting, we spend a lot of time at the pool, maybe try to catch a show, ride The Deuce downtown for some old-timey low roller action, etc.
If I've got $300 in my pocket for gambling and I decide it's time to retire to the room and I've still got money in my pocket - great! That's either more money to gamble with tomorrow or money to take home that I expected to spend at the tables.
And there is the critical word: spend. When I go to the casino my budget is money I expect to spend. If I spend it all before it's bedtime, it's time to find something else to do for the rest of the night. I'm not headed for the ATM for more cash, or back up to my room to get into the safe for tomorrow's gambling budget. I'm going people watching or something.
In short, I never walk into a casino expecting to win.

Hmm. You've lost a bunch of times so you should win next time. Is that a betting system? Lol
Quote: djatcOne of my fears is to lose my bankroll, as I use it to eat off of.
Buy some plates.

Just wait until a casino is giving away free plates.

Nope, I play with a high avg and was over comped some due to years and years of history and relationship.

Ok. I was reading the "35% of bankroll" and "low six figures" parts, and arrived at $300k. Must have misread somewhere.
Played Baccarat bet ended playing e_ roulette. Played $10 on zero and $180 on red and black same game. Lose $10 per game but got the final 1 point to qualify for a complementary cruise night.

Oh S#*@.. Low 5 figures... Why did I write 6? Just getting old I guess. Thanks..
Also: Of course I'm afraid. Much like how I dread driving in rush hour traffic in California, I'd hate to lose.
Quote: rudeboyoiWhat free casino gifts do people here actually use? Most of the gifts ive gotten just remain unused in the closet. But there is this cooler bag I got from stations I use on a fairly regular basis.
I got a deck of cards from the 4Q. I used it to practice shuffling until it wore out. And the elastic spiral things to hold player cards, too.
A small fabric bag I got from Ethel M's gets used now and then.
Quote: VenthusA cooler bag for a 6-pack from The Orleans gets used as a lunch box. A 12-pack of Diet Coke, two weeks from expiring from Morongo. A surprisingly tasty pie that I got from Pala on Tuesday that only cost me 575$. A tier 3 gift windbreaker from Binion's. (Which I actually ended up wearing for the last two years, until I somehow melted the lining-- while wearing it.)
You must be some hot stuff.
Before I had issues with them I wore their wind breaker.
Travel toiletry case from Binion's. I have a fairly high quality Snuggie from Caesars Windsor that I used to use a lot. It has a classy Caesars logo on it. The hot water bottle I got from the Palms broke while it was in my bed. I got my mom a travel lunch case from Motor City in Detroit that she actually uses a lot. But that was from the gift shop. Most free casino gifts are crap. Give me cash.Quote: rudeboyoiWhat free casino gifts do people here actually use? Most of the gifts ive gotten just remain unused in the closet. I have new robes from Caesars, Wynn, Aria, Mirage, Cosmo, Venetian and Golden Nugget all for sale? Make me an offer I cant refuse! Oh, and a 10" TV from Caesars that they gave me in 1980!
What free stuff have you received from a casino.
Obviously we all know that this stuff is not free and we have basically earned it but for the sake of argument we can just call it free. Also not to include items won in a drawing.
Items that I have received and currently use:
1. large golf umbrella with a barely noticeable casino logo on it.
2. Samsung Galaxy tab 3 (during xmas gift promotion)
3. pots and pans (can not think of the brand right now but they were decent quality $149ish a set)
4. Bright orange sweatshirt great for walking in the woods.
5. Stanley tool box
