Ok - I am daring to head to LV over Memorial Day weekend (if you don't know what happened to me last time I attempted this…well, I was going to link to my Vegas trip report from Memorial Day weekend 2013 but, I cannot find it - WIZARD or MISSION - any chance you can assist with this but, suffice it to say, it was all downhill)

I am splitting the trip:

3 nights at Golden Nugget ( I have never stayed downtown before)
4 nights at Aria

I am open to suggestions for new things to do when I am not playing blackjack

You should practice Loose Deuces on WoO and try to play it at The D...very fast drink service in Vintage Vegas. You should also eat at the D Grill at least once, second floor of The D, I cannot imagine anyone not being satisfied.

The Burger & Beer deal for $5.00 at the café in El Cortez is also very good, nice half pound burger and chips. For the beer, go with Tenaya Creek.

Hmm, Ace seems to be an upacale guy.
I'm downscale guy but I participate in some upscale activities.
Golf, I just played 18 down here in Florida yesterday. Shot well over 100 but love being out on the course.
I understand there is a course in Vegas that replicates the old ST Andrews course in Scotland.
I'd love to play that couse just once, real or in Vegas.
Most courses will rent you a set of clubs if you dont want to take a set on the plane.
Its just a forum. Nothing here to get obsessed about.

The dude is a lawyer and is used to winning losing a nickel royals worth in a single blackjack hand. I have a feeling it won't create the level of excitement for him like it would for us or Nareed. He probably should be playing dollars or triple play quarters at the minimum.

I actually enjoyed the zombie burlesque quite a bit. I was also hammered out of my mind so take my endorsement with a grain of salt.

People keep mentioning this but from the description, i cannot figure out whether the show is separate or included in the dinner or bar admission or how it works? I think getting my first cell phone planned seemed less complicated than their admissions structure…

Weird. I thought it was excellent. They were using real meat and not that Greek meatloaf on a rotisserie you get most places. The wife had a chicken kabob that came with some rice and a salad and it was good too.

Well, I haven't seen the whole show or the whole space, so please just consider this an introduction.

First, start on your left hand with a dining room. Then, the room to the immediate right is a bar. Then, a sitting lounge (or something like it). Then, the showroom. At the hub of all these rooms is (for lack of a better term) an entry.

The show-proper goes on in the showroom but spills over into the lounge ... mostly by virtue of a rotating round stage on the border between the rooms ... and also the bar. I didn't see anything go into the dining room but they could see everything going on in the bar.

Also, they'll go into the bar and lounge and invite 6-8 people at a time into small vignettes in some sore of ante-room. Those are nice but not particularly interesting, at least the ones I saw.

Fencing into the showroom varies ... I got stopped once and was allowed in another time. I think it depends on how many people they want in there. If you do the standing-room, you're at the back of the room near the bar so it's a little rowdier, but you're still close enough to the stage and some acts pour out into the audience.

The show is just a series of acts kind of in the Cirque fashion, but with more than just acrobats/skills ... also singing, dancing, etc. Stage is very dynamic. Good show but not Cirque, but good.

The "spillover" does a good job of creating energy and engaging patrons. I was encouraged to dance on the bar with the red-haired lady you see on the new billboards/ads ... of course, stopped just short of actually standing on the bar with her! Still, kind of fun.

I would say, go once and see how you feel, make sure you at least spend time in the bar, lounge, and showroom as I think the dining room is a little more isolated.

My $0.02.

I'd go with the bar or the show ... although if you go to the bar, some of the show will spill over and you might get in for part of the show at no additional cost. I actually forgot if there was a cover at the bar.

Supposedly the tagline is ,"beef, booze, and broads"

I ended up with a few friends and the Wizard and we discussed Asian/Russian mail order wives. Some of us had the steak, and some of us drank. So I feel we covered the trifecta.

During our WoVCon three day visit to Las Vegas, my wife and I spent a fair amount of time away from the strip, doing non-gambling things.

Two I would recommend.

DO visit The National Atomic Testing Museum .

DO pay seven bucks and drive through Red Rock Canyon .

DO NOT visit Laughlin.

I did it and I would say it's definitely worth it to do once. I'm not sure if I would pay sticker price to do it again. Maybe ask around here if there are any good deals or coupons to be had? I didn't really bother investigating.

We managed to board right around dusk and I think we got the best of both worlds in terms of view.

Personally I'm a big fan of high places with views, and the High Roller delivers much like the London Eye, which I have also done.

Ok BBB - can you please detail your bad experiences with GN for me…?

Well, ok. I booked them thru the hotel website for Wed-Sat nights, in between my time with Harrah's and with Paris. I had met a guy I enjoyed at Harrah's so asked my host on Wed morning if I could extend a night there so we could go out on the strip, and they approved it, so I called the GN and verified my rez (which had the first night prepaid) but told them I would be in the next morning. So I called the next morning at 8am to say I was on the way and they claimed they had canceled my rez because I hadn't checked in by 5am that morning. They said they had availability, but the prices they quoted for the same room (Gold tower) had more than doubled. I asked for a supervisor and finally got her to grudgingly "and as a one-time SPECIAL favor" to honor the original rez. Let's just say I dislike grovelling for something I'd already confirmed and paid for.

So I get there about 9:45am and even though I supposedly had a room, I didn't have one, and the king I'd arranged for was not available. I could have a 2 queen if I wanted. So I took a 2 queen. Not a big deal, except when I went to take a nap and pulled down the covers, there were skid marks on the sheets of that bed. The other one was clean, so gee, guess it's a good thing that I had a room with 2 beds, huh? But naptime got skipped. The rest of the room seemed pretty clean. Housekeeping did apologize and remake the room while I was downstairs playing.

I wanted coffee, but unlike both Harrah's and Paris with complimentary service, if I open the K cup package provided, I'll be charged $10 extra. Bleah. Same with room water; "only" $3 for the liter of water in the way on the table. And other charges, like the resort fee I wasn't supposed to pay, mysteriously showed up on my bill Sunday. "NO resort fee!" They advertise. Lie.

I go down to play and have some coffee at the table. I get on a PGP game, and I'm not allowed to play 2 hands. Nobody is. Instead, they offer a dragon hand if there's one un-played, but you can't bet the bonus on a dragon hand, so I don't bother. The dealer's yawning and bored the whole time I'm at the table; pity there was no opportunity I could see, but she was specializing in being rude to a couple other people at the table who weren't quick enough with their commission pays. Not fun.

I give up on PGP and look for something else to play, and find UTH, but it's 10 min, which means 60/hand for me (I play it aggressively). I like to see how the table's running before I play that high so prefer a 5 min table. Minor but you asked; I played for 10 and did ok. I had a cherry Coke while playing, and one of the two cherries in the garnish was rotted, so I had them replace that without the cherries.

I got hungry a couple hours later and went up to the buffet at 1:30 for lunch. Several of the dishes were pretty congealed and otherwise showed signs of age, some of them looked ok. I tried the salisbury steak, which was fancy meatloaf patties with a lot of filler, and got something that tasted off mixed in one of them. Pretty sure that's what led to projectile vomiting and other unpleasantness 2 hours later, which sidelined me for the rest of the night.

Didn't play there much Fri, but tried to leave early Saturday for the WoV meetup at MSS at noon. It's only a few blocks away, but Mike had asked me to take over the trivia etc. so wanted to get there with time enough to ensure my group reservation was set and meet early arrivals. So put in for my car from valet parking at 10:50. To be fair, checkout is at 11, but when 40 minutes had gone by with no car, I went back to find out the problem. They had pulled somebody else's car (they do it by last name, and it was sort of but not really similar to mine) and gotten no answer on it, so just left it in the middle of their valet rush. They figured out their error and got it within another 10 minutes, but it left me arriving at MSS right at noon. Luckily the parking and the pub were obvious enough that I could be on time (barely), but it kind of messed up my day, including not getting my player's card before the event so I could move with the group when it came time to play together.

That's about it; all small stuff, but altogether not a good experience. Hope yours goes better.
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

Did not get to Binion's. Spent Friday playing at the D to get the rebates, ran with the crowd on Saturday via MSS and Cali, then dinner with SOOPOO and back to the Rio, Sunday at Mirage with great PGP, then picked up Mom after checking into Paris. Poor Mom; her flight was cross-country and 3.5 hours late, so she landed at nearly 2 am, then got lost in the airport, and could not figure out why her phone wouldn't work after crossing 3 time zones. Tough night for us both; security ended up rescuing her wandering around and I spotted them both walking back to the terminal. I will def check out Binion's next trip since they do PGP well. At the D, played PG Mania for several hours, but found it simply didn't live up to my memory of how much I'd enjoyed it in the past. Also missed playing 2 hands; I really do seem to prefer that option. The Mirage allows it without forcing you to play 2x table minimum, too; a BIG point in their favor.

It's weird that they don't let you play two hands at PGP. One of the thinks I liked most about the GN was that they let you play 2 hands of blackjack without doubling the table minimum.

DO visit The National Atomic Testing Museum .

Seconded.

DO pay seven bucks and drive through Red Rock Canyon .

Also cool. I did in in one of the "rent three different 6 figure cars each for 15 minutes" places. (maybe this one? http://www.worldclassdriving.com/) Not cheap, but for me (someone who likes to go fast but doesn't get to near where I live) it was worth it. Also we were the last group of the day so we got to drive the cars back into town (where the storefront/garage was) instead of back to the parking lot they used as a remote pick-up/drop-off site. This added probably 20 min of driving, however we could not really open it up like we could in the more remote parts of Red Rock since we were driving on interstates and then LV Blvd to get back.

I would also add the Pinball Museum (which has a nice online 3d tour now)

Definitely play Royal Links - its very cool - I shot a 108 and still had a good time playing some of the famous British Open Holes.

Keep the ball in the fairway and out of the massive pot bunkers and you can do ok - I hit a couple of what I thought were really good drives only to be a yard or two off the fairway and be unplayable.

Good times!!

Comments—criticisms—questions—voodoo dolls?

Not sure what you are saying? You need rooms or something?

Nope I have rooms

Babs - your trip sounds as if it was planned by Satan himself (sorry FrG - but I am using the mythological idea of a Satan, not admitting there is a Satan)

I am anxious to check out the scene at the GN - I am a pretty personable guy and usually social enough to talk to people and see how their trips are going - I will be able to get a feel in the first few hours there

That's just it, go out and see for yourself, after all, variety is the spice of life. That is why I like blondes, brunettes, red heads, no haired girls, the whole shebang :)

I'll be here. We can play craps, poker, and grab a meal at the M's steak house.
