I have just joined today and would like to say Hello to one and all.
My name is David and I live in Glasgow, Scotland. I have been lucky enough to visit Vegas on a few occasions.
Over the last year or so I have become more interested in the mathematical side of gambling. As a result my game has seriously improved. (my games being Blackjack and NL Texas Hold Em).
My games still not perfect and I don't think it ever really will be, but that's part of the joy of learning.
I am looking forward to some great chats.
David
Welcome to the forum! Nice first post.
Welcome aboard. Glad to have a Glaswegian join us. For Blackjack you don't really need perfection. Some of the options in blackjack involve only a very slight difference between the best choice and the second best choice, so sometimes its better to memorize a more simple rule set and be able to apply it quickly under the stress of a casino's noise level than to know and apply the absolutely best mathematical options.

Hi folks,
Thanks for the welcome.
As for nessie - the facetious answer is reverse cowgirl for me but she prefers missionary.
In all seriousness there is something their. The problem is that because of all the tourists it has frightened away the local haggis population as the wee birdies are very shy.
So now we have to go further afield to catch our supper. ;>)
All the best

What is your position on Banshees? Forgive me for seeing no difference between Scotland and Ireland, I am a belligerent American.
No. Nothing to it at all except a lot of tourist oriented hype that is no doubt very profitable. Many lakes in the area are supposed to have creatures haunting their depths, but they all have a forest straight down to the water's edge. Dead trees wind up in the lake and sink, decomposition soon sends them to the surface briefly where they shoot out of the water and then sink again thus giving rise to stories about monsters with long necks. No such stories exist for lakes in the area that do not have nearby steeply forested hills.Quote: DavidGrantIn all seriousness there is something there.
I did have one question regarding UK casinos... are they still as depicted in our movies? Fairly quiet stately places with staff in evening dress, male customers in suits and ties and female customers in evening gowns and jewelry? Are alcoholic drinks brought to the tables and served free of charge? Are the waitresses as scantily clad as in Vegas. How did you find our loud casinos in comparison to your quiet, more stately casinos?

He lives in Scotland. Obviously his assertion that the Loch Ness Monster is real is more credible than your assertion that monsters don't exist.

That's okay, I see little difference between the US and Mexico.

1) Sort of.
2) The majority of casinos here are moving more towards the Vegas " Gaming as Entertainment" thing, as opposed to the old gambling den, especially now they can advertise. Dress Codes have been greatly relaxed, but there are still a few Casino's in London catering to the Old School with higher standards.
3) Depends, normal Fleas have to pay, but the High Rollers are comped at managers discretion.
4) In the majority, not even close. Not much skin is displayed here.
5) It makes a nice change. There are generally a hell of a lot more slot machines (most casinos here are limited to 20 machines on site) and there is generally a greater array of games. Free Bet Blackjack has only just started catching on here, but UTH is pretty hard to find. Its mostly the Classics of BJ with side bets, Roulette (single 0) and 3cp.

Actually plenty of sex please we're Scottish. ;>)
As was said above the rules are being relaxed. But we have a long way to go before we could match what is in LV or even most of the other US states or cities.
Some of the European casinos are a bit more formal however.
I have to say though I like the formality at times just as I like the relaxed US style as well. Suppose it depends if you are winning or not.
David
LOL. Yes, I guess just about anything involving a casino is to some extend dependent upon whether the player is winning or losing. Long ago, it was Benny Binion who got the peanuts and sawdust off the floor and gave the players free drinks, lovely waitresses, good bets and good steaks. I think some of these troubled casinos we have here are going to have to improve the bets that are offered, since they sure can't reduce the clothes worn by the waitresses.Quote: DavidGrantSuppose it depends if you are winning or not.

Surely you can tell the class of casino you are in by the clothes the CW's wear.or more correctly how they fill them out.
So called higher class establishments have a different demographic of CW from the lower end joints. Last time I stayed off strip they were older than me and I'm that old I can remember a time when mobile phones were used to make telephone calls.
