Quote: NeutrinoI'm 21 I get called "honey/hun/etc" by significantly older women in the casino. Not the other patrons but the female casino staff. Dealers, cocktail waitresses, masseurs, buffet waitresses, and so on. Almost all of them call me that yet most of them aren't even anywhere close to my age, and i'm just like "???????"
What term of endearment do your older female relatives use for you? Do they also call other youngish men the same thing?
PS can I borrow it?
What do you think they should call you?
Kid? Son?
SIR???

Hmm? Older women call everyone "honey" or "hon." It's not a casino thing, and you certainly shouldn't read into it what you seem to be. They've got empty nests, that's all.
it is normal, but it is also a severe double standard in our society. If you call an attractive female that it's harassment, but it's not if a woman says it, and is the standard greeting for many waitresses to their male customers.Quote: michael99000Perfectly normal , I don't get what the issue is

It really isn't harassment if you say it to an attractive female.
If you say it to an attractive female while drooling and staring at her breasts, that's different.
I think it's spread to more places though. And Vegas is kind of a mixture of people from all over.

I agree...I am in my 50's and some women call me that in a business setting. And I dont delude myself to think that its all about me me me......its everyone.
people who hear that and think they are something special are really way too full of themselves.

How would you prefer they address you?
They are probably hoping it works better for their tips than if they say hey a**hole?
I am European (Austrian) 50+. If they call me honey, do I return the favor or how do I address them?

Tip your wide brimmed hat (think John Wayne) and say "why thank you ma'am" :)

Here In America "dirty slut" is generally the term we use. Give it a try and report back.

Better hope "Dirty slut" is not a member here, otherwise you are in trouble.
Speaking of which, I saw a "sowet" banned probably for obvious reasons....imagine if that one was alowed to keep posting, hey hey

Serious answer: NO, do not use any such.
Do not use any name at all unless you are trying to get their attention. In this case a waitress can be summoned by saying "waitress" in enough volume to get her attention, adding no other word, then waiting for her to respond. Or, if younger than you, "Miss" is OK. If older than you, "Ma'am" is OK. Other hotel staff seem to rarely be addressed by their position, use only Miss or Ma'am as appropriate.

Good advice. I would say also, if a woman calls you "hon" or "honey", an accepted endearment back is "darlin' ", also southern (without the "g" of "darling"), if you want to encourage the friendliness, otherwise "Miss" or "Ma'am", said as warmly or distantly as you feel like, is good. Best approach is to get their name if they're wearing a tag, or even ask them, then call them by name and say "thank you" often after that.
Quote: hwccdealerAlso, I work with a lot of female dealers from Puerto Rico, and almost everyone is "baby."
Putting things in perspective, that would bug the heck out of me.
I address all women as "miss" ... sometimes "ma'am" if she's old enough to be my mom. I really don't have something to call men to be honest. I'll just say "excuse me" if I'm trying to get his attention... gradually louder until he sees me staring at him.
