The Following Has been Decided
Casino: The Meadows
Date: Sunday, March 2nd, 2014
Initial Time: 12:30p.m.
Initial Meeting Place: The Food Court
Dinner Location: The Terrace (On-site)
I'm thinking we're going to meet & greet for the first 1/2-1 hour and then move on to playing whatever each person is going to play.
Here is a link to the Terrace menu:
http://www.meadowsgaming.com/images/stories/Dining/theterrace/Terracemenu-MeadowsRacetrackandCasino.pdf
The only item that remains needing voted upon is what time we are going to eat dinner, and keep in mind the WoV East trivia challenge will be scheduled for after we are done eating in which the winner will win a prize, though I'm not sure what yet.
Let's go ahead and put dinner time to a vote, we are planning to play Craps shortly after the Meet & Greet, so I want to suggest the following times for an initial vote.
4:00 OR 4:30
5:00 OR 5:30
6:00 OR 6:30
7:00 OR 7:30
First, we will take five days to vote on the hour, and then we'll narrow it down to the half hour. I have decided to vote for 4:00 OR 4:30, so that has one vote.

KeyserSoze, I still expect you to come to Vegas the same time I do and pound some down with me, unfortunately, I probably won't be drinking much, if at all, during this gathering. I really miss Vegas, but I'll be going about eighty miles to get to Rivers, some are going farther.
I'm going to go ahead and open up the voting on choice of casino at this time. I'm also going to set the date for March 2nd, 2013 and an initial meeting time of 1:00p.m., provided nobody has any serious pre-existing problem with that date or time. It'll be a late lunch and early dinner sort of thing.
If any of you would care to arrive earlier and make plans amongst yourselves to do so, obviously I would strongly encourage anyone to do that. In all likelihood, I will be working until 4:00a.m. the night before, so I'll be ambling in almost exactly on time.
For voting, again, the casino choices are as follows:
Rivers
Meadows
Mountaineer
Wheeling Island
I believe that Mosca has effectively voted for Rivers, I vote for Mosca to be able to attend, so I also vote for Rivers. It appears that OneNickelMiracle has explicitly voted for Meadows Casino.
If it makes any difference, Mosca, Meadows is actually only a half hour South of Rivers down I-79 while Wheeling Island is about an hour from Rivers. Mountaineer is probably the furthest from any of these, Chester is in the middle of friggin' nowhere.

Yeah, this gathering won't be a prime drinking opportunity for me either. From my house to Pittsburgh is around 190 miles.
The Vegas plan sounds great. But I can't pour 30 drinks down my pie hole like you did at Chi Brew Co.

Don't let that stop you from trying. Stay thirsty, my friend!
Quote: FaceOh, umm... if anyone has issues showing up because of my career choice, I am completely comfortable opting out because of it. Feel free to state such. You haven't anything to worry about, but thought I'd throw that out there =p
what is your career choice? Not that I care but I am curious since I didn't already know.
Mission, I will probably be in. My vote is for the Meadows.
As for food options. The meadows has the Terrace which is Meh but decent I guess. The wheelhouse at the rivers is much better but I hate that place. The Meadows is geared towards low ballers like myself.
WV may be too far for me. My wife will be 9 months pregnant so that may get in the way.
While I have driven to each of those casinos before, it was never on a 1-2 day trip from home. And those locations are in "the north" from my perspective, and I don't generally drive that direction in the winter. Now if you had in mind a little get-together maybe 400 miles to the south (say in Cherokee, NC) then I would be up for it most any time I'm not on another trip. In fact, I'll be heading there on a day-trip again this Saturday.
Quote:never on a 1-2 day trip from home
this would be a bit of a trip, too much to try without staying over for me.
what are the chances of getting a special group rate here guy?

Huh? Did you change careers? Are you going to show up smelling indelibly of fish, or feces?

Google Maps says the difference is only about 20 minutes. Which is the nicer casino? I grew up in Allegheny County, but haven't been back since my brother passed in 2009.
Quote: FaceYou haven't anything to worry about
I think everyone is confident about that.
Now if it was somebody else, I'd have to worry that my secret new grip with my craps setting would get out there to all the casinos and I could be ruined! [g]
I know it's March but PA can have some crazy weather. I may be in depending on the outlook.
I have no chance for the Thursdays as I am working each Thursday in February.

Rivers is nicer than Meadows, but that's also occasionally reflected in the Table Minimums.
Now, if we want to eat somewhere other than the casino itself, I think Rivers is a much better choice because it is right in the heart of Pittsburgh whereas you have to go across a busy highway to really get anywhere from Meadows...from Rivers...we could just walk somewhere.
Not only is that a very safe area in Pittsburgh to walk during the day, but we'd also be a large group, anyway.
Quote: SOOPOOIm a possible for February 9 or 23. If Face is driving with me picking up gas/tolls/etc... that increases my odds of coming.....

What about Sunday 3/2/13?
Quote: Mission146What about Sunday 3/2/13?
Unfortunately working.... but do NOT use me as a yardstick... I would say my chance of attending a day I can go is still less than 50%....

I vote for Rivers.
Quote: IbeatyouracesLove the full pay, one credit 9/6 JoB there.
where the hell is that?
Nice. I have a feeling Rivers is going to become my "local" when I move to the coal basin. I can't stand Wheeling Island or Mountaineer, and Rivers is better than Meadows for the most part.Quote: IbeatyouracesLove the full pay, one credit 9/6 JoB there.
I've gone about as far as I can go with Horseshoe Cleveland. I've made Seven Stars, and they've really tightened up their promotional stance lately. They were REALLY good for a while. (Cincinnati was even better).
Quote: GWAEwhat is your career choice? Not that I care but I am curious since I didn't already know.
Game protection. Some have worried in the past that I'm a "spy" or worse, and I could understand if an AP would rather play safe than sorry, which is why I offered to abstain if it makes someone uncomfortable.
Like those Venice Nights and Money Works machines, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS at least one with Wilds left behind, it's just silly.

I don't think it will be a problem, Face, I would assume you only remember faces you see when you are, "On the clock."
True. I love their buffet mainly for the desserts and Chinese food. Worth every penny.Quote: AZDuffmanI prefer Rivers and Sunday. Rivers to me just is nicer and has better bar areas for us to gather. We might be able to get a reserved table at the Spiral Bar earlier in the day. Dining options are also better IMHO, though I will meet at wherever we choose.

Quote: RaleighCraps... as an ex 40 year resident of PA, I'm not keen on planning a trip driving in that state in Feb. As an official old fart now, I hate driving in snow and/or slush.
Sounds like similar reservations on the part of two old fogies from NC. Why don't you just join me at Cherokee this Saturday? Just a day trip for us this time, and we'll probably be there from noon until six or so.

Quote: the thread belowthe Rivers is extremely smoky, so we shied away. Also, last time we attempted to go we were stopped by ununiformed people telling us it was a $50 parking charge (on a Sunday morning) because of a sports game. I thought it was unprofessional, and off putting.
https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/gambling/trip-reports/16325-the-meadows-racetrack-and-casino/
I have not been to any of the casinos and won't vote. I leave it to others regarding the smoking as I am only bothered by the worst situations [I guess it'd be good to hear it's not the worst, if anybody knows]
I think we should address the parking situation in particular, making sure we don't get gouged.
btw, at a racetrack once, it crossed my mind that the people collecting some of the parking charges were pulling a scam.
