Being in the neighborhood, I stopped by the Westin yesterday to 'exchange' my old players club card with their new 'max' players card. For those of you unfamiliar, the Weston has renamed their casino, but not the hotel, which seems odd. They are offering a $5 casino chip when you switch to their new card.

Since table games were not open, when I was there, I asked if I could just get the five dollars instead. The lady at the players club/cashier said no, only a chip, which she handed me. I asked if I had to play the chip and she said, I could play it or cash it out. So I handed her the chip back to cash out, which she did. ??? Isn't that what I initially asked for when she said no. Lol.

Maybe some kind of protocol they have to follow, that's my guess. I guess if they are watched 24 hours, they don't want to look like they are slipping up.

I bet they can't give cash as an incentive for joining the club. That's why places give free play or match play or teeshirts or hats and not just the cash equivalent of those items. Luckily, in this case, you could get the full cash value for your promotional item without having to risk playing a freeplay or match play offer.

I'm sure it's a procedural thing. Until you've got the chip in your hand, documented by the camera, it's not yours to cash in, and they haven't handed you cash for a mere flash of your new card. The teller was protecting herself by not handing you cash directly. I've seen this in another form, where if I've been wandering and have both TITO and chips to cash in, they won't mix the transaction. I give them chips, they give me cash, I move the cash out of the transaction area, then I hand them the TITO and they hand me the cash, even if they scan several I haven't consolidated yet and give me the sum.
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

Not usually the case, but I've even had this happen when I have $x80 in chips and throw a $20 bill in. They will give me the cash for the chips, then I have to hand it all right back to get the $100.

Side note: I especially love when the cashier asks if I want large bills when I do this. Nah, I really want you to return everything singles please.
