I had a similar experience with the addition that a friend, without Rain X, was following me.
When we hit Memphis the sky went dark and the rain was pouring down. I didn't have my wipers on, (with Rain X it seems to work better without them), and I was driving along just fine. At the next time we stopped he told me he had his wipers on full speed and couldn't see a thing, but knowing I had the Rain X he just kept following me even though in any other condition he probably would have slowed down considerably.

Yeah, but it'll be 110 all summer in AZ
and 75-80 here. The bad cold only
lasts a couple weeks, if that long.
I played that moving to a warmer
climate game for 7 years. The trade
off in the quality of life isn't worth it.

One type of weather that I've had plenty of, is rain. Grew up in PNW, and spent a couple years in the Olympic rain forest, then several years on Kodiak. That's enough rain for a lifetime.Quote: EvenBobThe weather in MI is so drop dead

I'd rather have snow than rain.

I had free Super Bowl Tickets on the 40 yard line for Super Bowl 34 in Atlanta. The whole city was snowed and iced in and all flights were cancelled. I sat home and watched the game and was amazed how many empty seats there were.

Climate change is real, but no one knows whether the changes will be +EV or -EV. The real issue is that water vapor in the atmosphere is 40x more important than CO2 in driving the "warming effect" and no one knows whether water vapor (humidity and clouds) will go up or down. However, if you are an environmental scientist, your government funding depends upon the government being convinced that environmental science is critically important, so you tend to exaggerate and be alarmist.
If you live in Northern Canada or Russia or Norway, why would you be willing to sacrifice to prevent the average temperature from going up a few degrees?
Portland has a moderate climate, but even at that I am surprised that the temperature has rarely fallen below freezing this winter, maybe a few times and it fell only to about 29 or so.
Then I read it will be -41 in the Duluth, Minnesota vicinity and count my blessings.

But we are creating much more CO2 than water vapor relative to the current amounts in the atmosphere through industrial processes.
But the alarmist attitude obviously is not working because Republicans have ignored it for years and claim it's a hoax. So you think all of the hundreds of studies that nearly point in one particular direction are exaggerated or even completely false because they might get a little more money out of it? I think the scientific community generally has more integrity than that.
As for Canada and Norway, they understand the global ramifications if the scientists are correct. A majority of of our politicians here are more worried about a stupid wall.

Perhaps for the same reason Americans are wiling to fight and die in foreign lands for things that don't affect them directly. In this age of " I got mine, now I want yours", some people still try to see the forest and not get hung up on whatever shiny object is on the tree directly in front of them. Some think in terms of "us", others think in terms of " me" and " them"

You've never frozen beer by accident
in the freezer? The bottles break
and the cans explode. Liquid expands
when it freezes.
Most of the winter in Ak, we'd keep our beer on the porch, sometimes it froze.Quote: MaxPenHeard that beer deliveries are being halted in some areas due to it freezing on the truck. Can beer not freeze and thaw? Does that affect quality in some way?
If I brought it in, it would thaw fast and the tops would lose the seal and the beer would foam out.
If I left the beer outside to thaw [slowly] on the porch, it was fine.

I've had Champaign freeze and explode the glass bottle a lot faster than I thought.
It used to happen almost yearly up north, when the military guys were doing cold weather training, someone would sneak a flask of whiskey in their parka. When they took a swig, the unsolidify'd booze that was well below freezing temp, would kill the GI.
Quote: gordonm888.... if you are an environmental scientist, your government funding depends upon the government being convinced that environmental science is critically important, so you tend to exaggerate and be alarmist.
I'm going to take exception to that as being an over-statement. The difference between the good scientist and the mediocre scientist is that the former only cares about figuring out the correct answer regardless of it's impact on funding. That may not put them in the good graces of the mangers and bureaucrats higher up the food chain but that's another issue. When 99% of the scientific community is in sync, you can't simply write it off as exaggeration and hype.
Quote: gordonm888If you live in Northern Canada or Russia or Norway, why would you be willing to sacrifice to prevent the average temperature from going up a few degrees?
Those aren't the ones being asked to sacrifice. Those are all low-population, low-carbon footprint regions. The folks in India, China, US, and Europe are both (a) the ones who are most impacted and (b) the ones being asked to make the changes.

Evidently, there are methods you can use to slowly thaw the beer and by turning the bottle at key points, you can reduce the damage to the beer. If you simply let it thaw and pop it open, the taste is off. Way off.

My second year in the great land, I spent over 4k for snow removal. That did include some second hand equipment though.
Had a total that year of 11 ft., with nearly a 1/3 mile driveway, and no help.
