So what's your IQ. One of the mod's hinted on here
his was tested as north of 160. Mine was last taken
in 1969 and it was 138.
Are IQ tests valuable, do they really mean anything.
I've known several high IQ people (over 150) that
acted like complete morons and made a total botch
of their lives. They were always about to take off
on something, but never quite did.
My sister was 143, and I haven't seen her since 1977.
Pretty smart, I'd say..
Side/ How well does one do at answering Jeopardy questions? Although this is knowledge, and not pattern recognition, multi-linguistics, or symbolism, knowledge is still important to scoring /side

They never tested you in school? Are you sure?
I thought it was mandatory around 6th grade
or so. That's how they find the gifted children.

I went to a small private, Christian school Preschool-12th grade. We took lots of standardized tests (bubble-filling) all the way through elementary/junior high, in addition to the PSAT sophomore year and the SAT and ACT junior and senior year. And the ASVAB junior year.
But I never took an IQ test. Or if I did, they never told me the actual number.
I was definitely "gifted" in that I was usually the smartest kid in my class, at least in math/science (and at least one of the smartest in all other subjects). But my class was only 20-30 kids throughout school. I was valedictorian, but only out of 26 graduating seniors. I was the only person in my AP calculus class; by the end my teacher and I were learning multi-variable calculus together.
I was then tested 10 years later and it was 147.
But yet…I still gamble…oh well

They never tell you, so you probably took one. I
found out my 2nd year of college when taking
the test was part of a course I was taking.

That's why I made 100 the lowest number in
the poll, if I went down to 85 it would have
embarrassed him.
Obama supposedly has a high IQ and he is a freaking moron. My weimaraner is more intelligent than Obama.
IQ is worthless if you ask me.

What do you call a lawyer with an IQ of 80?
Your honor.

Higher or lower than mlk654321's reputed 180.
The only time I've done an official IQ test I got back 115, at age of 14. Considering my language knowledge and pattern recognition is better now, I'd expect to score higher. But on the other hand, it wouldn't be age adjusted. I've learnt to do IQ tests, I guess.
I do have a Ph.D. That has nothing to do with my IQ. Not much pattern matching and word play in my thesis.
Which same three-letter word can be placed in front of the following words to make a new word?
SIGN, DONE, DUCT, FOUND, FIRM, TRACT, DENSE
If you count from 1 to 100, how many 7's will you pass on the way?
10, 11, 19, 20, 21
There are 1200 elephants in a herd. Some have pink and green stripes, some are all pink and some are all blue. One third are pure pink. Is it true that 400 elephants are definitely blue?
Yes or No
2 3 5 7 11 13 ?
14,15, 16, 17, 18
If a circle is one, how many is an octagon?
2, 4, 6, 8, 12

Aw crap.
One quick way to see it is to picture all 100 numbers on a grid, like a football squares game. All numbers are there, and if you count 01-09, there are 200 digits. Each digit equally represented = 20 of each digit.
Octo is the prefix for 8 from both latin and greek etymologies.

I overthought the octagon question
I had a test for the Royal Air Force at 18, and pretty much aced these and the number string tests (I failed the medical for flight crew on account of having a slight ear drum problem).
How dose ones IQ go down? Are you very old? Drug abuse?Quote: MoscaI tested in the 140s when I was young, but there's no way I'm close to that now. All I remember is how to appear smart. And I'm still smart enough to use that skill. But that's all.
As anyone who has ever met me knows, I do not easily recall names or faces. I have no idea who is who unless I have a lot of contact with the person or have otherwise been preoccupied with the person. About a month ago I got to know someone for the first time in my exercise group. It turns out (as he told me) we had known each other for several years in the group and had spoken on four previous occasions. It was embarrassing.
Intelligence has more than one axis, that's for sure.

Psychotic episodes can also lower IQ. I think it's about 5pts on average for a BiPolar episode and 15Pts for a schizophrenic episode, but don't quote me.

The absent minded professor syndrome. You can
teach advanced calculus, yet never learn the names
of your students. I have the opposite problem, I
remember names and faces and suck at math. Just
yesterday I was thinking about a guy I knew in 1980
who was a customer of my bar, that I haven't thought about
in at least 30 years. I immediately knew his name and
what he looked like.
My IQ's in the 130's and my strength is making connections
between things that don't look connected. Every number up
to 10,000 has an exact place in my mind, and I can immediately
see the connection between, say, numbers 734 and 5456. Yet
I'm terrible at math.

If a circle is one...what? Shape? An octagon is also one shape. "1" isn't one of your answers.

Here's another one from that test.
Pear is to apple as potato is to?
Banana
Radish
Strawberry
Peach
Lettuce
And if you guess that lettuce has one more letter than potato as apple has one more letter than pear, although true, it is not the answer that they wanted.
hah, so I got it wrong. I think I should get 1/2 point at least, since my answer is true.

I would agree that's kind of what i was asking. Under normal circumstances. I guess I don't know what he meant by when I was young, I assumed he meant in his teens.Quote: socksProbably should've specified an adult test(population ratio), as childhood tests are scored differently (as a age ratio). I test at about 140 adult(SD=15), but tested at 152 on a childhood test in 2nd grade. Also, I think differing maturation rates make it harder to interpret childhood tests.

Your IQ should go up between 10 and 20 from the age of around 16. Under normal circumstances your IQ should always be in the same range, plus or minus 5 points.

How about one line to draw a circle and eight to draw an octagon?

Mostly it's multiple surgeries in the last 10 years. Going under general anesthesia. Every time you recover, you lose a little bit of sharpness. I'm not interested in finding deep answers like I used to be. My attention span is short. I don't read like I used to.
