In Canada this time

Essentially, sister gives brother $1 of a $3 lottery ticket (supposedly). Brother wins $30M lottery. Brother does not give sister 1/3 winnings. Sister sues brother.

I'm not sure how the law works up in the People's Republic of Canada, but I have to believe without anything on paper or a witness she's SOL.
Its - Possessive; It's - "It is" / "It has"; There - Location; Their - Possessive; They're - "They are"

Winning the lottery or running for political office will always bring out the dirt and the dirty.

An oral contract is rarely worth the paper its printed on.

And "tickets" are often fungible. Decades ago when it was my turn to buy the departmental lottery ticket I actually took it and wrote Departmental shared Ticket on it prior to the drawing so that I couldn't switch tickets later on if a personally purchased ticket won or lost.

And I'd just like to know... when it comes to paying lawyers who do you think gets the better lawyer: the one who has the ticket or the one who has to say to the lawyer "I'll pay you once the court gives me my money"?

I haven't done any specific research on this, but here is how I think this would go in my state.

Whether or not a contract exists would be a question of fact that goes to a jury. So if someone said I contributed money for the purpose of buying that ticket they should be entitled to get that question to a Court. No one ever knows what a jury will do for sure, so there is some pressure on everyone to try to reach a settlement.

As far as who gets the best lawyer, I think if it is a big enough prize everybody can get the best lawyer they can find.
