Our only other 2 royals of the year occurred back in February, 3 days a part. It's funny how these things go.
Whenever I play video poker, I always start out betting one credit on the first draw, then work up from there. I usually just play $40 in a quarter machine and I like to make my money last. I will up my bets to five credits if the machine is in a paying mood. The last Royal I hit was at Harrah's Philadelphia, and wouldn't you know, it came on my first draw: a whopping 25 cent bet. Oh well, a win's a win.

Oh my! Pabo, you have to play 5 credits! The whole thing is about hitting a royal and getting that 4000 credits. Hitting a royal and getting 250 credit... yuk! I don't even want to think about the extra advantage you are giving the house by doing this.

It's less than most people assume. ~1.25%, slightly more than 1 full house or 1 flush unit. At my home casinos, playing one quarter is a better move than 5 nickels since quarters are available for full pay, but all nickel games are sub 98%.
