I was in the Mirage in early July. They have a blackjack dealer with autism. She is a young, petite, Asian with braces. And a very sweet person. Not sure I remember her name, but its something like Marianne?

Although a bit slow, she is a very competent dealer. Her card placement, chip placement is extremely precise. Had me wondering if she was human or robot. She made NO mistakes during my 30 minutes at her table.

If you sit at her table, she will pause, look you in the eye and give you a genuine greeting. Same when you exit the game.

She talks to herself while dealing. When she breaks her hand, she will say "I'm so sorry boss, please do not fire me. I will do better next time boss." She is adorable.

For the record, I know nothing about autism. When she went on break, the pit critter came over and said she was autistic.

Kudos to the Mirage for hiring this chick.

I have a four year old granddaughter that has autism. When my son found out about it he was devastated. I told him not to worry about it, that she would grow out of it if the got her into a program for autism as soon as the could. Luckily living in Fla. they have some great programs.

When they did the testing on her, they said that she might have be a genius with her test scores, but did not know how to socialize and she was in her own little world. She would repeat everything over and over again. At four years old she can hear a song one time and sing the whole song. It's truly amazing some of the things she knows.

Our son and his wife have her in dance, swimming, soccer, baseball, and full time school year round.
I can't say how proud I'm with all they do for her. She is starting to come around, but its going to be a long road for the three of them. Having dedicated parents and good schools have a dramatic affect on anybody that is autistic, if you start early!

The way I look at it is, it may be a blessing in disguise, she is a lot smarter then most four year old’s, it might pay off later on in her life, I tell our son and his wife this all the time, she may go on to making a major contribution to anything she does, when she grows up!

Getting back to your dealer, did you ever stop to think that she may very well be the best dealer they have because of her autism, she probably know the card count as she is dealing, They don’t have to worry about her mind wondering off, thinking about something else, where she would make mistakes!
Having a handicap is not the worst thing in the world, having a brain and not using it is!

We have way to may people here in the USA, that never finish school. They have a fully functional brain that they never use! That is one of the reasons the casinos have it made, players never take the time to study the games they are playing, most don't even understand what they are playing they just throw their money on the felt and expect it to grow.

The players in the casinos can be very well educated fools, they do very well for themselves in other aspects of their lives, but when it comes to gambling, they are complete failures. It's not like there isn't anything they can do to improve how they play, there are plenty of good books and yes even some good schools that will give you a fighting chance, but they don't take the time to learn anything about what they are playing!
