I was talking recently with the head of Marketing/Player Development at a Midwest casino and as marketing strategy especially for better players, I suggested that for new players who sign up for their rewards program, that they "honor" the same status which that particular player has achieved elsewhere.

For example, if a player has a Diamond (or Seven Stars) Total Rewards card from Harrah's or a Platinum (or Noir) Mlife card from MGM, and that person is signing up for the first time at the new casino, then the new casino issues their own highest level player's card to the player. The new card may be limited in time (such as 6 months) until the new player qualifies on his own, but at least the new player is recognized as a good player from the start and can avail himself of the benefits associated with the higher status card.

Naturally, such a program offer should not be restricted to only the higher level players and any member of another casino's rewards program could receive a new card at the "same" level at the new casino.

I think the attraction of such an offer is obvious. I don't believe this is a radical idea and I assume it has been done many times before, particularly for a new casino that is opening for the first time and wants to attract existing players away from competing casinos in its market. I personally, however, have not seen such a marketing strategy.

I am wondering if other players on this forum have experienced a program offer such as this in the past, and if so, where and what were some of the details?

Yeah, AC was doing this (maybe they still do) for a while. I had the Harrah's Diamond card and got matched at Trump and Borgata. Borgata gave me $100 in free play and $20 in food credit which was sweet. Never played there again. Didn't bother trying ACH or Resorts. Parx and Delaware were matching too.

Yeah, I remember doing this at Borgata when they first opened.

Actually, I was trying to be a smart-ass. I commented to the hostess at the back of the line for the players card center that my wife is Diamond at Harrah's. She brought us to the VIP desk, got us Black Label, some free play, a free room, etc.

I now tend to think that this is standard procedure at most casinos.

It falls under the category of "Just ask. They may say 'No' but they may say 'Yes'!"

Borgata is still doing this, they have signs all over the casino with the offer. Harrahs doesnt do this, although they certainly should. I also got the higher level card matched at Dover Downs along with $100 in slot play if I remember correctly.

I was Noir at MGM and was able to get the Platinum Level at The Cosmopolitan by showing them my Noir card. This was in December last year, which was good timing, because I lost my Noir status at the end of January 2013 (which I still can't figure out).
