had a mystery promo today for Platinum members: minumum $75
I got $100
plan:
i was getting hungry but was itching to play. so i compromised.
split my win goal in 1/2. once reached, go eat, then come back and play for the other 1/2.
or play for 30min, which ever comes first.
i was playing Darkside on craps.
sat down, 2 PSOs! pressed my 3rd bet. short roll, then a 7!
hit my 1/2 win goal in literally 8 rolls of the dice.
Went to eat at the casino buffet. normally a waitress greets almost immediately.
well, i sat there for a few min and nothing. there was a waitress taking care of full tables in front of me and one waitress for tables in back of me.
i finally asked the one in front of me if she's seen my waitress. she looks around then asked what i wanted to drink. she'll take care of me.
She was nice and took care of me.
so i didnt ask management what happened to my waitress or if there wasnt any, why the hostess put me in a section w/o an assigned waitress.
but Afterwards, i didnt feel like gambling anymore.
as i was walking towards the craps table, i remember the Wizard's advice of "Are you still having fun?"
The answer was no. Leaving sounded better than Forcing myself to play just to not risk losing future promos.
And out the door i went.

Quote: treetopbuddySo you had to wait a few minutes? Didn't they know you were a Platinum member?
lol.. it's not the status.
i havent been to many buffets at this casino, but for everytime (except this time) i had the waitress come within the 1st min, if not seconds of me being seated.
maybe all the previous waitresses set my expectations high. but in any event, this time soured my mood to gamble for the day.
and no they didnt know i was platinum, nor should it matter since the buffet isnt segregated by Tier lvl.
ie: unlike the line at the cashiers cage where there's a separate set of ropes for high Tier members
Which gets around to asking, how is the buffet these days?
As to the theme of the thread, yep, quit, Guy, when you have the slightest notion it's the right time to say no. That's your higher brain talking to you.
Quote: odiousgambitI think it is a great buffet when I was there once for it. I think it was you, though, who said things tend to be too salty, and were put off by that. Thinking about it, that probably was a valid knock ... I am OK with that up to a certain point and just absolutely hate it when it goes over the line ... your tolerance may be lower. I also have never been told I have high blood pressure, which helps me not worry.

after i said it was too salty, i didnt go back till i went to the casino w/a friend.
less salty and the beef brisket was to die for.
they no longer serve beef brisket :(
The chicken picante and salmon were excellant. but other items were dry like the brussel spouts and mahi fish.
And the soft ice cream melted waaaay too fast. nothing else was notable.
basically hit or miss but definitely less salty. guess it was just that first time.
You "walked a winner", an absolutely wonderful habit to get into. Let's never underestimate the inherent value of "positive reinforcement".
The upside of any re-buy would have been another few units.
BUUUTTT, the potential downside:
1.) Variance correction.
You hit your win goal rather quickly in your session, winning virtually every bet. Ask yourself: How often does that happen? We all know that we don't win each and every one of our bets. So it would seem to me that you might've opened yourself up to some sort of "variance correction" had you have re-bought in to play a second session, where those winners might've been alot tougher to come by.
2.) The "chase".
IF, in fact, your next session wasn't quite the "perfection" that your initial session was, what might that do to your psyche? We never want to turn a winning day into a losing one, so the question then becomes at what cost is it that we seek to "insure" our daily win? IOW, had you have fallen behind in this second session, just how much of a "money chase" might it have turned into in order to preserve your earlier win?
It all adds up to: Never putting yourself in the potential position of failure, ESPECIALLY after you had secured your earlier win. Why? Because those are the most devastating losses of all; the "winners turned losers" losses. None sting more.
Much better option to have have "walked your win".
Make it a habit.
I wish you all the very best of it.

It sounds like you were placed in "no man's land" of server territory. I hate when I get placed there.

Perfect session turned into a losing one:
Yeah that thought occurred to me as i was walking towards the buffet.
but the thought of not playing after the buffet never occurred to me. my mindset was that i havent reached my win goal yet.
and if i'm not going to play after the buffet, i might as well go home now and skip the buffet.

this was the 1st time it's ever happened to me. but then again, i dont eat at buffets (casino or otherwise) that often.
