My previous thread about the time i lost control gambling w/fake $:
https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/off-topic/general/13079-lost-control-gambling-with-fake-wtf/

Same online role playing game. Got some more game currency (5 orbs).
Gambled on making my gear better.

On my 1st try the gear improved and met my minimal requirements.
But then greed took over.

Minimal. nah.. lets try to meet what I expected and hope for GODLY gear.

well, went thru the rest of the orbs and each time the specs never even met my minimum.

The gear is now the same as before i started this.. Garbage.

So why didnt i learn my lesson from my previous post???

It depends on what the lesson is that you learned. Since there is no real monetary value and you built it back up so quickly was the lesson you took from it that there is no risk of ruin. I have a casino app on my smartphone, where if I bust I get $2000 in free chips to play with, and I subsequently attempt to double up real quick because there is no real consequence to ruin. However, I would never bet $2000 on a hand of blackjack in an actual casino or in a real online one. I think as long as you can separate the fantasy from the reality you are okay.

hm.. no risk of ruin.. maybe subconciously i knew that?
that may explain my lack of dicipline?

and yeah, so far havent done anything as stupid in a real casino as i had in the game.

I used to play in the Poker Stars free tournaments they ran all the time with rotating games. A good 25% of people went all in the first hand, often with terrible hands. It has the highest EV when time spent playing in the tournament is added to the calculation.

Good post Gabes, but depending on how this game works, there is some amount of "ruin" based on time. Unless 100x values his time on the game to be nothing of course or he spent little time on the game similar to the below post.

Maybe you need to overthink your goals. Is your "minimal requirement" really satisfactory for you ?
My concept for games of chances are (borrowed from an unnamed person): "have a plan and stick to it". Actually the most part spent on any game is the plan. What to do in each possible situation - and exactly why. First define your goals, then find the strategy meeting your goals with best probability. And then - for the hell of it - play as planed.

You need to develop a state of mind where you don't mind about the actual result of the game. All that matters is the plan you carefully developed, and the precision of yours fulfilling this plan. If you ever come to the point of saying "nah, let's forget my plan, I *need* my crossbow better than this", if you have the slight feeling that your plan is not well designed, immediately move away from the game. Rethink your plan, why you originally thought this plan was good, and why you don't think the plan is good by now.

Personally, the most fun is developing the plan itself. The latter one is then just following some strict protocol which is kind of "boring". If it helps you: say to yourself that in the long run single events don't matter (of course this isn't true. Each single event has the same significancy to the result than any other event). But more important than success in single events is a consistent plan or strategy.
