My younger brother is in town for 10 days and I am trying to entertain him with some of the touristy things and places outside of vegas as well as things everyone expects from our great town. Yesterday we went to Death Valley. It was actually my first visit to Death Valley as well as I had not made the trip since I moved here 3 years ago. It was quite different that I expected. I just pictured a lot of nothingness for as far as the eye could see, like you see in the movies. But Death Valley is a huge national park comprising of a huge area, much of it pretty scenic. I particularly found Scotty Castle interesting.
On the return trip we stopped at Bakers, California and saw the worlds largest thermometer. I gotta say, I really don't get the attraction. ??? It's one of those things like the worlds biggest ball of twine. I just don't get it??? Anyway, all I kept thinking is I am glad that thermometer isn't a rectal thermometer. Unless of course EvenBob wasn't feeling well....lol. Just kidding bob.
So this morning we head to breakfast at Gold Coast Buffet. Nothing but the best when I am entertaining...lol Actually Gold coast buffet is very satisfactory for breakfast. I eat there often when I have a half price coupon (Not sure I would pay full price or even use my points at full price). Anyway, on this day the attraction was the promo that Gold Coast has been running all month on Thursdays free buffet for 100 point, which I am sure all you locals have been hitting. 100 points is $100 played through a machine. At video poker that is an expected cost of 50 cents. Not bad for breakfast.
So I help my brother play through $100 because he has never played VP before. He is just 21. he ended up losing $7.50. Then I play through my $100. I am not sure if I was more showing off or more just damn hungry, but I played through on $5 denomination. Total of 4 spins. No, I am not going to tell you I hit a Royal. Boy I wish I could. But I did hit a straight flush, which was actually dealt to me on the very first hand. That paid $1250, which was nice, since my goal was only a free breakfast. I am actually an EV type guy. I am more concerned with and measure everything in EV, so I don't often celebrate good variance (luck), but what the hell, it's the holidays. It was a fun breakfast. :)

A straight flush on a 5 dollar machine is an excellent way to pay for breakfast! Congratulations
