As anyone who read my too many posts in the political threads knows, I have a preference for president, and also would like to see one party capture the senate. I am not going to elaborate on that here as I don't want to turn this thread towards that.
In addition to presidential and senate races, I have a little wish list of a number of other results. There are a handful of candidates, both republican and democrat that I am rooting against, because I just don't like them. They seem like bad people to me. To name a few, republican congressmen Alan West of Florida and Joe Walsh of Illinois. West seem crazy to me (literally) and Walsh owes years of back child support. Anyone who doesn't meet their obligations and pay their child support doesn't deserve to be in congress. Also a democratic congresswoman running for Senate here in Nevada, Shelley Berkley, seems like a genuinely bad person.
Gay marriage is on the ballot in 3 states and favored to pass in all three, Maryland, Maine, and Washington state. Which ever state gets called passing first, probably one of the 2 east coast states, will be the first state to approve gay marriage by a vote from the people. The 6 states that have legalized gay marriage have done so by courts or legislative action, so this will be a first Vote win for Gay marriage after 32 losses in various states. I, myself am not just a proponent of gay marriage, but belong to comedian Lewis Black school of thought. Lewis says that gay people shouldn't just have the right to get married, but they should HAVE to get married. He say's why shouldn't they be a miserable as everyone else. lol
Legalizing small amounts of marijuana, for personal use is on the ballot in Washington State, Oregon and Colorado and expected to pass in Wash and Colorado. I have to admit, I was a pretty big stoner in high school, but have grown out of that in the last decade, so it isn't super important to me, but will be interesting. I am not even sure how that would be legal, as I was under the impression that this issue fell under federal juristiction.
All in all should be a fun night. :)
I think that the reason those laws don't fall under federal jurisdiction is because it is not, under any circumstances, a felonious amount of the substance, so the State/County always has jurisdiction over cases not involving what is deemed a felonious amount anyway. I could be wrong, but I think that's why.
I'm interested in the results in a number of redistricted house seats, especially in CA. The Senate will be interesting, especially the races in MO and IN. There's an anti-gay marriage constitutional amendment in MN that I'll enjoy watching fail.
I really do think the presidential race will be called early. Once VA goes for Obama, Romney's pretty much toast. I'm hoping they'll cover the downballot stuff more closely then, instead of just showing random b-roll of the presidential candidates.

The only thing interesting will be seeing how much those two rectal cavities (Akin * Mourdock) lose by.
Quote: DRichI will treat it like every other Tuesday night. I will be playing golf until about 9pm PST and then I will stop somewhere for a cold beverage. I should be home around 10pm to see the results.
Wont the last 90 minutes of your round be pretty dark now that we're on standard time?

This might be right - I'm not exactly sure on the jurisdiction thing. However, it will still be a crime under federal law. It's unlikely any individuals will be prosecuted by the feds, but it's very likely the feds will sue Washington state for having a conflicting law on the books. They technically already have that with medical weed, but obviously this will be much more widespread.
The Federal/State brouhaha is a big reason I'm hoping it will pass - I hope they come to some resolution on it or the feds give up.
Right before going to bed, I'll check the California Secretary of State website to check the early results on the state propositions. I'll check them again tomorrow morning to get the likely results.
And I'm interested to find out what exactly Romney's plan is. I figure he'll finally tell us after it's too late for us to change our minds.

Hopefully, we will find out about it slightly before they pass it into law as opposed to having to pass the bill to find out what is in it!!

I added to Akin's losing tally. That and the cigarette tax were the only good reasons to vote in MO.
I did not anticipate how much fun it would be to win so I'm still up. I'll hang with it another half hour.Quote: s2dbakerI'll watch Maddow until 10 and then hit the hay. If I wake up and the results are different than I had expected, then there's not much I could have done about it anyway. I'm sure that DailyKos will aggregate all of the relevant stuff that I should see or laugh at in the morning.

I offset your McCaskill vote with an Akin vote. I don't like the guy, but thought he was better than the Obama crony alternative. The cigarette tax was failing 56%-44% last time I checked. I don't understand why. Last numbers I saw for Missouri showed 28% of adults smoked here, so where are the rest of the no votes coming from? As you can probably guess, I'm a non-smoker.

I was promised an Obama concession speech by several forum members during the last few months... Guess I'll never get to hear one...

Missouri generally hates taxes? Also the gas stations pumped god knows how much advertising for the "No" camp than the "Yes" camp did. I probably saw "No" TV advertising outweigh "Yes" TV advertising probably about 10 to 1. And every time you refill your car with gas, they would tell you to vote "No" on Prop. B without telling you anything about Prop. B except, "a 760% tax increase, omg?!?!?!" A Prop. B ad never mentions tobacco, or the current ultra-low tax rate MO currently has.
And KSDK in St. Louis only says it's failing 51-49 with 80% reporting. So it could come back, but probably not. Personally being a non-smoker, I feel like anyone who is a non-smoker who doesn't vote for this is an idiot, but obviously MO is full of idiots. And even if this tax increase passes, the MO cigarette price will be about the national average...lol
Edit: This Prop. failed worse than Romney/Akin tonight (51-49 NO with 99% in). Smokers keep cheaper cigs while indirectly helping to drive everyone's health care costs up! It shows you what an well financed/written political ad campaign can do vs. a poorly written/financed one. Just because ~75% of voters don't smoke, apparently issues like this aren't a shoo-in and are worth spending money on.
<--- likes to gamble in Illinois casinos because they are non-smoking, so I am obviously biased. :P

Was definitely a fun night! The Alan West race hasn't officially been called yet. He trails by 2500 votes with 100% reporting. I suppose he will request a recount. But once that race becomes official, I will have had a clean sweep of my 'wish list'. That makes for a pretty good election night. :)
