Category Are (well "is", I guess since there is only one
so far).....
RAT RACE.
It's sortof a remake of the classic Mad, Mad, Mad World.
The scenes where Jon Lovitz takes his family to the
Barbie museum, and then his subsequent visit to a
VFW convention are hilarious.
And hat's off to John Cleese for his portrayal of the
eccentric owner of the Venetian.
We watched it last night on NetFlix. I don't know if
you'll find it at a Video store, if your town even has
one anymore.
I would have to go with
"lock, stock and two smoking barrels."
Also, "casino" makes me laugh my ass off.
And they must have dragged Rod Steiger off his death bed for this god awful movie. It's on NETFLIX.
Quote: AZDuffmanNot a total comedy, but "Let It Ride" is a nice horse-racing gambling movie. Clean language and good family viewing. Just the thing to get the kids interested at a proper, young age.
Teenage boys will live Jennifer Tilly, that's for sure. LOL
Let It Ride was primarily filmed at Hialeah Park Race Track, which was closed in 2001 and reopened on November 28, 2009.
Horse racing has gone from The Sport of Kings to the Sport of Chumps. SIGH

Hialeah is #3 on my list of tracks I want to see that I haven't seen yet:
#3 - Hialeah
#2 - Santa Anita
#1 - Saratoga
As for Let it Ride, definitely has some funny moments, although I wouldn't put it high on my list of gambling movies. You can tell it was written by a horse player though.
$100.
Hustlers use to have a guy with binoculars watching starting gate and another in front of a friendly $100 teller. There was a 3 or 4 second delay, until the ticket machine shut down after horses actually broke from the gate. One guy would SCREAM the number that
broke on top in 4& 1/2 F races. The teller would then punch tickets as fast as possible.
On my nightmare vacation to Baltimore, I did not make it to the Timonium State Fair. You could bet a horse and watch the race from the ferris wheel. Back in the old days, guys who were banned from the track loved Timonium as they could push their bets thru the fence to a runner ( yours truly) inside the track.

I'm 28 and I love Jennifer Tilly. I concur with JohnnyQ on Rat Race.

Jennifer Tilly was 30 when she said as Vicci : you know what they say, Nothing ventured, nothing...
ventured.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has seen it.
I'm glad that someone AGREES with me.
I WOULD be glad if somone else actually
watched it, have a beverage or 2, sit back,
enjoy.
AND I guess this one has nothing to do with
gambling, but I think DR. HORRIBLE's SING-ALONG
BLOG is a masterpiece. It is also available on
NETFLIX.

ps: Reason # 173 that having teenage kids
is worth it, and NOT "more trouble than it is
worth".
Quote: duckmankillaI have Rat Race on dvd, and yes it is an outstanding movie.
If anyone can't find it, I'm sure the duckman would be
happy to lend it to you. Just $ 9.95 for shipping and
handling.
AND still about as cheap as seeing a boring first
run move, cheaper if you get a pop or Junior Mints !

I forget why I eneded up watching it, but like I said if you are watching your young nieces and nephews you can plug it in and they will be able to watch it while you won't be totally bored as if you put in a kids movie. And their parents will still talk to you, unlike if you put in "Casino."
