A lot of people on this site claim to be AP blackjack players, and I believe that many of them are. However, one of my good friends is a great positive blackjack player, but an overall loser at the casino. Why is this? He takes the money that he wins and wanders off to the craps tables or baccarat and drops it all back, and then some. He keeps detailed records, and year after year has a positive blackjack "income" and a negative overall loss.

So my question is this. If you ran a casino, would you keep around an AP blackjack player who is a big craps, roulette, slot etc. loser? Or would you ban them based upon the principle of the matter.

I guess this reminds me of those poker players who win a major tournament only to lose it all at the craps table.

You gotta keep letting me play. I mean him.

Key: negative overall loss. I would let him play. They could try to be too cute and back him off from blackjack, while still showering him with bonuses and offers for the other games that he plays, but would still risk losing him.

I have a close friend that is a pretty big losing video poker player. I have tried to teach him and push him towards blackjack advantage play with some success. He is a pretty good low limit blackjack player and has enjoyed pretty good results from his blackjack play, BUT, he puts all of his winnings back into the VP machine. So the results of my efforts have been that I have turned him from an overall losing player to where he is basically breaking even, which is kind of frustrating, but I guess it's something. I support myself from AP, mostly blackjack play so I measure everything in terms of +EV. He is not a professional player, nor aspires to be one, so he has a different view.

(S)he would not get 86ed in my Casino, knowing I get it all back elsewhere in the building.
Some people need to reimagine their thinking.

Most casinos focus on their bottom line.

A drunk with a huge bankroll doesn't get eighty-sixed until he is just an obnoxious drunk with a few reds left.

A man playing BJ and winning, even winning by some minor cheating, gets tolerated when his wife routinely drops a bundle at the slots.

A jerk at a craps table is tolerated if he has money, once he becomes just a loud mouthed jerk with very little money, he gets bounced out of there.

Jerks at a big Bacc table can engage in hijinks... until the Gaming Commission steps in.

Right and wrong behavior at a casino depends on the size of the bank roll and whether one is losing or winning.

Of course the effects are subtle and anything grossly obvious will be acted upon, but the speed and intensity of the casino's reaction is often modulated by the "net" bottom line: Let the jerk cheat at twenty dollar blackjack, his friend is betting a thousand dollars a hand and still has some chips left.

they told me i only had to leave for THAT night,
and that next time i had to keep my pants on.

i think most casinos would let the guy keep playing
but would start shuffling at 60% penetration or less.
they might also limit his betting to a flat amount.
they might shut him out of a table and make him play
at a crowded table where he would not get as many hands.
there are too many ways for them to make it useless without a backoff.
