Here's the first sentence of an article abut the US Open:

"Its Saturday at the 2012 U.S. Open, and just like old times,
Tiger Woods is leading the field into the weekend at one-under par."

He's actually sharing the lead with two other golfers,
but nobody cares about that. When Tiger plays, he's
the only guy on the course.

The commentators were driving me nuts yesterday
with their breathless coverage when Tiger was making
a shot. Words like perfect, spectacular, surgical,
magical, unreal, wonderful, tremendous, peppered
every sentence. I swear, they were so turned on they
probably couldn't stand up because of the massive
man-crush erections they had.

So it was hilarious when Tiger got 3 bogeys in a row
and all the air went out of their balloon. They were
so deflated and let down, they could barely go on.

Tiger is the only known quanity in golf that makes people who don't even follow golf, follow it once in awhile.

He's still possible more bread & butter for everyone involved if he keeps his game together long enough. That's why they still love him.

Its happening again. They were gushing about Tiger
15min before he tee'd off. He's the guy to beat, his
game is back, look at his laser-like concentration.

Tiger then bogeys two of the first three holes and they
shut up about him. Makes me laugh out loud.

Really. +1

But ol' Tiger is still in the game.
Olympic is living up to USOpen expectations.
Some people need to reimagine their thinking.

It happened yet AGAIN! The commentators were sooooo
excited about Tiger Woods on Thursday being in the US
Open. Then, oops, Tiger stubs his putter again, like he's
completely forgotten how to play golf. When will the golf
world realize he's never coming back.

'It's not like there's a simple tweak that's going to fix things for Tiger. He's almost 40 and looks completely lost on a golf course.'

Tiger has been golf's biggest draw since the late-1990s. He has gone from Wunderkind to an aging pro, but he he has not been replaced in the personality department. They have no other "story" players it seems. At 40 he needs to start to realize his athletic ability is going down and he will need to change his play to compensate.

Meh. Golf is to be played, not watched.

Never liked him, always thought he was an
arrogant ass. I was delighted when he had
the big fall and I predicted then he would
never recover. I hate athletes who think
their poopy no stinky.

The rumors of steroid use are always there. I watched him play in person at the Deutsche Bank Championship a couple of years ago and it was nothing impressive by his standards. His daughter followed him around inside the ropes and was so cute that everyone ended up watching her. He managed to keep his gutter mouth in check that day. Has anyone else seen Tiger play?

I don't get the athlete-worship thing. I've been around several, didn't even know who they were. I did put my best forward as they were considered prestige clients, but really not much difference for the most part. Most were pretty cool, some were jerks, but that happens with any place you go. I will admit that it was kind of interesting to be able to see and interact "backstage" when they were probably able to act as real people. I always assumed they liked us treating them polite but not be all fawning.
