Thanks only1 - my fingers are crossed that this is THE trip!!! (plus, they gave me $500 free for slot play only - so maybe I will just hit a jackpot...I am clueless on slots as I only play blackjack but I am not going to turn down $500 in free slot play)

Just bet like 3-5 dollars a spin and cash out as soon as you have played through the freeplay money.

If you don't enjoy playing the slots just for the sake of playing the slots, then I would go play the $100 slots with that money. I've never been to Revel, but I just called there (wanted to make an informed post) and that is their highest denomination.
It should have the highest expected return and if you can hit a 5:1, even losing the other four pulls, you'll get $500, cash. It seems that such could be your most likely way of getting $500 cash, absent hitting some kind of jackpot or second top pay on a lesser machine.
If it's free money and you're already well-to-do, swing for the fences!!! If you want to guarantee that you get some money back, then a lower denomination would work just fine.

I was thinking of the $1 Wheel of Fortune machines and swing for the fences
It's quite ironic because I get a lecture on what, "The professionals play," but then I see them at the BJ tables sometimes playing, "Assume a dealer ten," straight-up, hardly realizing that the HE on slot machines is barely worse than them playing that way (the casino I go to Hits S17) and it's probably going to take me more time to lose $50 to a $0.25 slot machine than it will for them to drop $100.
I know some people that will offer to, "Watch me," play Slots in-between trips to the table, but I always feel rushed. They just always stare vacantly at the machines hardly even realizing it when I get paid 50:1 on one pull because, betting $0.50, because it's, "Only $25.00."
I don't really care to play poker unless I have to, and I only have to when I'm trying to replenish my bankroll. I'm also aware of the higher ER of Video Poker, and I know how to play properly, but Video Poker is extremely boring to me. I'd rather sit at the Texas Hold 'Em Low Limit table where my ER is probably higher than 100% (depending on who else is playing) and I don't really like doing that.
It also sucks (excuse my language, was used for emphasis only) when the guy you're with runs out of money before you because you often feel compelled to rush to get done, leave immediately, or front him some money. You'd be surprised at how poor some gamblers are at paying back small loans backed only by verbal contract!
The other problem is I like to switch machines fairly often, which I know offers no advantage, but it doesn't hurt you, either. The RNG is not going to change and your odds of getting paid 50:1 on machine x or machine y are only different if they are programmed to be different. If they are different, but the ER is nearly the same, then that just means you have a greater chance of hitting something that is not 50:1, could be less, could be more.
Anyway, most people are either superstitious, so they don't EVER want to switch machines, or they are too lazy to get up and move, one or the other. I also feel as though I am poor company if I get up and move without them coming with me, so I usually just sit and stop betting until they are finally ready to switch machines or run out of their gambling money. When they run out of money, then I am back to leaving, rushing or loaning.
I guess going with company wouldn't be so bad if I didn't feel so obligated to do what I think my company wants to do. I enjoy going with my wife, who tends to just follow my lead (and ALWAYS, literally, ALWAYS wins on the slots) but she only gets the fever once a year...or less.
I almost shot a PM to Tiltpoul, who lives in Ohio, to see if he wanted to go with me sometime...even prior to the existence of this thread...but from his posts I gather that he gambles far more in a session than I do and would be very bored with my company. I believe it is possible that he does not play slots, as well.
For these reasons, discluding the most recent paragraph, I guess I enjoy going alone (or with my wife) moreso than I enjoy having company. I do, however, wish my wife would like to go more often. Especially last year in September when I hit for the $1,250 hand-pay, I sure wish she would have been there to see that...

That's not, "Swinging," in the sense that I would use the term. $5.00 WoF, perhaps?

Sounds good to me - I will check and see if they are available!

The problem is if you play too high a denomination there is a high chance of your "hitting" meaning tax paperwork. I think the last thing you want to do is have to pay a couple hundred in taxes at the end of the year on money that you won from a freeplay, especially as most of us are gamblers and have probably already used that money elsewhere. I can also say that during my episode that is described in another thread I played 10 dollars a spin and won nothing on 10 in a row, so I'm not so sure the $100 machine is a good idea at all. It would be nice to get something back from this freeplay after the awful losses aceofspades has had at the Revel.

I certainly understand your point. I was basically just saying the $100 machines if AoS is already wealthy. I would not play the $100 machines, (nor would I ever earn $500 freeplay, I don't think) but I still maintain that the $100 machines are the best ones to play in that situation.
Theoretically, if I won $500 freeplay, somehow, I'd probably just plug it all in basically either $0.25, $0.50 or $1.00 flattops, two Credit Max Bet betting one credit on a perfectly graudated payout schedule, or two on a bonus for the top payout. I guess I would probably go with the $1.00 for the ER, and 250-500 spins is probably a reasonable enough number of spins to approach the ER and get something. I find it hard to imagine coming out of that with less than $300 cash, anyway.
If you end up having to pay taxes, just meticulously track your losses for the rest of the year to offset it. Even if you were to win, overall, for the rest of the year, you wouldn't get tax papers on anything else under $1,199, so you could claim a couple wins, as well, here and there, but claim mostly losses to offset the big win. If you wouldn't end up losing enough to offset the win, then even better. That means the big pay was worth the few hundred in taxes.
I hit that $1,250 last September on a $5.00, Max One Credit, Five Times Pay machine. That's 250:1, so if I were to hit for $25,000 in that situation on a $100 machine, I wouldn't complain too much about Uncle Sam taking his piece of the action.

I think the $1 Wheel of Fortune is what I will play - that will give me 166.66666666 pulls at $3max credits LOL

Cool. Have fun with it and here's to hoping you can cash out a lot from it. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks - everyone here on the boards has been so positive and supportive throughout my horrific losing streak - this is the weekend I make my comeback!!! in the words of Frank Costanza - "I'm back baby!!!"

I think the important thing is to not be too aggressive. And when you play blackjack if you make back a modest amount (Let's say 25% or so), don't be afraid to get up and take the money. You lost so much with bets that you normally aren't comfortable making, so it will be very hard to try to make it all back in one shot. If you can just get some back on this trip it will be a step in the right direction and it will keep you playing as you continue. The worst is when someone make some back (25%) then gets aggressive and ends up giving it all right back. I'm rooting for you from my apartment in Boston :)
I wish you the best of luck with WoF and for your entire trip. I hope that you light up WoF with the fire of a million suns, and I hope it does require a handpay (because the taxes are negligible and you can always loss track to offset them) even if you are playing $3.00/pull.
Quote: TiltpoulOkay, so it looks like the Atlantic City trip is going to happen. I'm not sure exactly when I'm arriving yet, but I will be there on Monday and Tuesday all day. I'm staying a Showboat and will mostly be playing Tiles and probably some poker this trip. My budget's a little less than normal, but it's a short trip anyways, so I should be okay.
You will miss me by 1 day (but Monday is my birthday so I hope everyone is a winner)
let me know if you might want to meet up.
if you are on a low budget, the atlantic club has a $10 table and resorts has $15.
everywhere else is $25.
trump plaza used to have $20,
but they have officially discontinued tiles (and midi-bac).

Man, I wish I had checked before I went to AC this past Thurs/Fri - the website exploded. ;)
I will add that Tiles at the Showboat are $15 during the day. I played at the Resorts table, but the first hand of 1/2 and no winners in 10 hands meant I took my $50 loss and left for better luck, which I found both at Showboat's tiles and Revel's SP21 tables.
Interesting story, the floor in the Revel told us a story, he got to "bust" the first counting team at Revel. They were playing in the digipit and the bigplayer was mouthing the count to himself the whole time, which gave it away.....

I'd probably take you up on Resorts... they've been sending me some interesting offers, so I'd like to continue giving them some play. Even $25 tiles isn't a big deal for me, since you push a lot (well, I hope I push a lot).
I'm not surprised Plaza got rid of Tiles. It's only a matter of time before it gets sold anyways.
I try to make it to the casino 1-2 times a week, as long as I can spare a small part of my bankroll to satisfy the gf and her slots play. Feel free to PM me if any of you are up this way. There are other things this town has to offer than the casino, too, for those who have the time and interest.
Anyone going to be in Vegas around July 18th weekend?
Anyway, if some of the forum members were there it might help me make up my mind to go.

Escalate things, what else? Call again and ask for a supervisor or a manager. Have some of the past offers handy, your player card, and be prepared to argue. If you have any records of your play or points, such as a win/loss statement, have that handy, too.
Quote: aceofspadesHey Fiziks - what are the table conditions in Toledo?
Not great... Hollywood is all minimum $25 BJ on weekends, $15 POSSIBLY during the week (if you get lucky). H17, 8 decks, no RSA, no Surrender, DAS. High limit gets you 6 decks and S17.
The ONLY good thing (if you don't mind unethical play) is that dealer procedures are apparently not important in Ohio. This is true at both Horseshoe and Hollywood. I'm sure you could find some dealers who are inadvertently hole carding, or from the other thread, not charging the mandatory blind bet. I'm not condoning or advertising it, just saying that procedures are ALL over the place.

The entire idea of the House edge is 'unethical' - so, dealer mistakes are always fine by me!

I played on a $10 table on Sunday, but was flat betting $25 that night playing BS. On Fridays and Saturdays, most of the tables are $25 and there may be 2 or 3 $15 tables. On weekdays you get an even mix of $15 and $25 tables. I've never seen anything lower than $10 but I go mostly at night when the minimums seem to be higher on all games.
Six deck shoe, Dealer must hit soft 17, can resplit aces (did this once on sunday, maybe dealer error?), double after split, blackjack pays 3:2, you can double any hand. Not sure about surrendering, but I don't think you can (haven't asked, haven't tried).
One thing I don't like is that any bet over $50 gets a lot of attention, and at $100 the dealer shouts "black in play". After she announced that the pit boss came over and hovered over the table. I played 1 hand at $100 and drew some unwanted attention, but it was one of the last hands I played.

This is really silly. So the house is supposed to hire dealers and pay their bills and give you free stuff out of the kindness of their heart? What are you thinking? Everybody knows the games are not fair. Nobody has a gun to your head, you choose to play!
I get it. When the player has an edge over the house, that is good, or maybe morally nuetral. When the house has an edge over the player, that is baaaad.

Quote: OneAngryDwarfWill probably be at Wheeling Island tomorrow afternoon between 1-7PM. Mission146 had expressed interest in a meet-up...anyone else in the PA/WV/OH area who's able to be there on very short notice, just let me know.
I'm sorry, I work during those hours and cannot make it.
If you are ever going to be there in the early a.m. hours or on a Sunday, those are the times I am likely to be able to make it.
If you want, we'll schedule something after you are back in town.
Looking at potentially going to Beau Rivage in Biloxi, MS Nov 30 - Dec 3. More details as the date gets closer.
It looks like I will be hitting Hollywood in Charles Town, WV this Friday, around 7:00 AM. Probably play craps for a couple of hours. unless they are $25 tables. I have heard it is high minimums here, since it is close to DC.
Then it will be off to Hollywood in Grantville, PA to meet friends around 11:00 AM. This should be good until 5:00 PM or so, assuming my NEW and IMPROVED everything is rosy, sunny side up, I am the luckiest dude, I am a winner, I am a point throwing machine, attitude does its job. Of COURSE IT WILL WORK.
If any forum members are available, it is always fun to meet new people from the forum.
I'll be joining my husband so I won't have much control over my time schedule. I think my husband and the Wizard would get along like a house on fire since they're both hiking fools, but my husband isn't into gambling.

My original plan was AC this weekend, but I just couldn't work it around the rest of the family plans. I have enough Free Play waiting for me to even consider going alone on Saturday while the rest of the crew went to check out Tebow, but couldn't get everything to work out. Next weekend I have to bring my oldest to college. Wah. Labor Day would probably be too much of a zoo, then I have Vegas. Then my b-i-l's 40th. AC is looking like late September at the earliest.
