I won't say where I teach, but it is a public secondary school. I have been teaching there for nine years.
I drive a 2005 Mazda 3s with 66,000 miles on it.
I work 176 days a year. The exact amount I will make this year is dependent on the payment of some bonuses, but I will probably make around $55,000. (Our teachers' union negotiated favorably.)
I have declared a total of $176,000 in gambling wins on my federal tax returns since 1999, and paid approximately $30,000 in federal taxes.
I am an atheist, and vote most often with the Libertarian Party.
Anyone, of course, may question any of this, with any degree of civility (or incivility) they feel is appropriate for their personality.

Yes, I am, but not because of my modest gambling successes, but because of my friends and colleagues, the beautiful place I live in, and because I love my job.

I don't know why anybody would. Did anybody see me wave from the moon when I was there? You may question it, but I swear I was there, why would I lie.

Yes, indeed...you're an astronaut. We all figured as much....

I don't know why anybody would, either, but the fact remains that you did.
Of course, as Bob said, none of it may be true, but what I find precise is if it isn't, it's the dream life for the poor guy.

2006 Mazda 6 here. Jerry may call them sissy cars, but I love my Mazda. The MPGs aren't so great, but that's sort of my fault for (a) choosing a 6 instead of a 3 and (b) choosing a 6 cylinder instead of a 4. The thing does "zoom zoom" pretty decently, but I definitely pay for it.
I bought it used, so I've only had it about 2 1/2 years, but I haven't had any major problems yet. I'm sold. When I need to go car shopping again, some day in the distant future, I'll probably start by looking at Mazdas.
Quote: JerryLoganLet's see....he's painted a picture of a loner....a true brute, who lives in an area full of dropouts and hippies with degrees only a mother could love, and who drives a sissy car and who gets laughed at by the kids in his classes, a good portion of whom are probably homos (from SAN FRANCISCO!). His disdain for the REAL life is portrayed by his unhappiness with his own from being an atheist (hmmm....kinda odd for that part of the country....HA!) Oh, and he's a winner winner chicken dinner at gambling, a real rogue teacher with balls by golly! Chinook Winds has GOT to have him banned for life.

I knew this day would come eventually, but I have to suspend you for this one. You could argue that it wasn't a real insult, but a painting of an insult, and "none of it may be true." However, I can't allow such thinly veiled personal attacks to stand. The suspension will be for three days, and I think I'm being lenient. I was looking forward to your response to my post in the Stone Cold Lock thread too, but that will have to wait.
Nobody should assume that the above post is where I draw my line. I plan to allow much less than this in the future.
Quote: SOOPOOmkl- a high school teacher here with a masters degree and some years in the system makes FAR more than you do. What does a newbie teacher make where you live? Our experienced teachers here make just under 6 figures. Another question, if you've made about 15 grand a year from gambling that you reported to the feds, it was my impression that such small numbers would not even be a blip on their radar screen. What would make you report such small winnings? Does the casino 'pre' report your winnings from a slot club, or are you just the most ethical man in the world?
I think that a teacher fresh out of school, with an MA, would make $42,000 a year plus bonuses. I'm not sure of the precise figure.
The school districts here pay pretty much all they can afford. The recession hit us late, and HARD. We still have almost 15% unemployment. Rather than laying off teachers, the district imposed nine mandatory layoff days, when the schools are actually closed.
I reported my winnings to the Feds primarily to reconcile my W2-Gs. If you don't file, and give a strict accounting of your wins and losses, they act as if your W2Gs were ALL winnings. I would have owed them my soul if I hadn't filed.
Woo hoo!Quote: WizardI knew this day would come eventually, but I have to suspend you for this one.
THANK YOU!
Now we can get back to more serious business.
Like whether or not a contract for the purchase of a soul can be binding.

You just banned him for the three days he said he'd be on Thanksgiving Holiday... I don't think he'll care much...

D'oh. I didn't know that.
