“Source says lagoon project has been nixed at Wynn Las Vegas. Disappointing, if true, but explains work to reclaim golf course. Wynn in a state of flux at the moment, with changes in leadership likely, so several announced projects have uncertain future.”

Good question. You coming to Florida any time soon? We could try and outrun the Red Tide.

No plans, I'm afraid.

Whichever casino pool has all the hip, sexy, 20-something girls hanging out.

Sorry to derail a little. For the swimmers out there, how good of exercise is swimming? This summer I would take the kids to the pool and they love playing in the 6ft section. I would basically doggie paddle for an hour at a time. Would I be burning a significant amount of calories, or not really?
Doesnt vegas have an Olympic pool anywhere, challenge could happen there.

Those pools are not suitable for a serious swimming race. Maybe if we did it right when the pool opens, before the partying begins.

I think swimming in general is the best form of exercise. However, the doggie paddle is not going to get your heart rate up very much, but it's better than sitting in a chair reading a magazine.

I think the Pavillion Center Pool, near my house, is Olympic size, although they lane it the short way.

It might work if we treated it like an obstacle course...
EDIT: Seriously, though, any college should have an Olympic size pool. Hell, there's a high school near where I live that has an Olympic size pool. It's open to the public under certain circumstances that I can't quite remember. They also had a half-size Olympic pool which would also work for a swimming competition, because Olympic pools are freaking gigantic so even a half-size is pretty huge.

Yeah, but the bet centered on endurance swimming, not your skill at flip-turning. I'm not willing to race Mike on a pool where he can push off on a wall every 25 meters. He's going to win for sure in that situation, so what's the point?
I'm a very good open-water swimmer. He's younger, in much better shape, but not historically a distance swimmer.
And yeah, swimming is great cardio, low-impact, especially good for overweight people because the water supports your joints.
