Why?Quote: GreasyjohnI like the place. Very nice coffee shop. To bad I can't play blackjack at a Station property.
Quote: Wulfgar1224My question is regarding the shuttle that the Palace Station provides to and from the strip. Are only guests allowed to use that shuttle? The reason that I ask is that I'm a low roller and was wanting to play some cheap tiles and I heard that Palace station is the place. I was figuring I might play there a little bit and take the shuttle back to the strip in order to save cab fare.
During my first 2.5 year of living in Vegas from 2009 until 2012, I lived a block off the strip and didn't own a car. I would often use the various off strip location shuttles to get to some of the properties, like M resort, Silverton, Red Rock, Palace stations, Sam's town, Orleans/gold coast, Rio, to name a few. Most of these had a policy of hotel guest first, then open to the public. This meant that 95% of the time, when not crowded they didn't ask, but a few times when crowded they would board hotel guests first and then general public. There were a few times that I was unable to return from M resort and had to wait for next shuttle.
Also, many strip or downtown visitors don't realize that if they purchase a pass for the Deuce, that pass is good on all the residential routes as well. There is fairly easy and short RTC (public transit) from strip to Palace Station, Orleans, Palms/Gold Coast/Rio, Silver7, and one bus, but longer trip access to Red Rock, Sam's Town. If you are willing to change buses, you can get to almost every casino in the valley. (I believe rampart and M resort are the two not accessed by public transportation).

Why what? Why does he like the coffee shop? Or why can't he play Blackjack at Station properties?
He likes the coffee shop, because Palace Station has absolutely the worst buffet in Vegas. Lol.
He can't play blackjack, because he farts at the table too much and was asked not to. lol.
Just kidding (about the farting). Station Casino's is mildly sweaty as a chain, and Palace among the sweatiest as an individual property. Palace has some decent low limit BJ games, but wouldn't risk playing there too often and getting 86ed and flyered chain-wide where you could lose some even better games at other more tolerant properties.

Hey Kewlj,
I remember in a prior post how you knew so much about the Rio shuttle. Now I know why. And you also mentioned on another thread that some of the Station properties are sweaty than others. And now I know which is worst. And you mentioned how Station properties share info when I mentioned I got backed off at one after being backed off at another. Well, you know a lot about Vegas (yes, I know, you live there). Passed by Binion's old house on Bonanza yet? I did last week and it's still there.

Never been there. As a matter of fact only learned of it fairly recently when I read something or saw something on TV. There's a number of historical places on my list to check out, but never seem to 'get to it', although I did recently drive by (not really by...because it's a dead end street) Liberace's home.
Quote: GreasyjohnI mentioned Binion's home to you in my "My Blackjack Story..." thread in May of last year.
Oh, maybe that was it. Lol
Quote: VenthusI'll second the bit about the worst buffet. I go in there hungry, look around, lose my appetite and get depressed, force some nutrients down and leave feeling like I was assaulted by a Harry Potter dementor.
I can't believe it's that bad. I recently had dinner at the Silver Sevens buffet and I liked it very much. Yeah, it isn't the Mandalay Bay buffet, but it's good. Is the Palace Station buffet worse than Silver Sevens? I liked the Imperial Palace Bufet. I liked the Railroad Pass buffet. Big tin buckets sitting on your table for the crab leg shells. Kabang. Slam dunk.

Here's my take: A couple of years ago, I would have rated Palace Station and Terrible's (now Silver7) as very close for the worse buffet in Vegas. When Terrible's became Silver7, 18 months ago, they tried to upgrade the buffet. They had a Tuesday night steak nights which was pretty good, Huge softball sized baked potatoes, cooked to perfection, among other things. But as time went on they have slipped back towards where they used to be. I recently noticed, they no longer offer butter, only margarine. Steak night is gone. Just a general decline. I think I would currently rate them just a hair above Palace station.
When I need to use the comps in my mail offers from Silver7, I opt for the Café, right next door, Silver spoon, I think it's called. They too are nothing special, but typical café type food. They do have some good specials, like all you can eat spaghetti dinner, and several real good and inexpensive breakfast specials. Unfortunately, at both the buffet and the café, service leaves something to be desired.
The last time I ate at Palace Station Buffet, it was so bad, I think I ONLY ate dessert. The dessert station was probably the best feature.
The big question in my mind is how Stations properties can call all of there buffet's "Feast Buffet"? Anyone who has eaten at the Feast Buffet at Red Rock or Green Valley Ranch, knows they are light years different than the Feast Buffet at Palace Station or Boulder Station. Even Sunset Station's Feast Buffet is a world of difference from the lower end properties. Doesn't make sense to call them all the same name. ???
Now Railroad Pass? I have never eaten the buffet there. Didn't even know they had one. Are you suggesting there is a new contender to the worst buffet title?

I wouldn't wish Terrible's food on my worst enemy. I'd actually starve then eat there again. and that's saying something as I've never turned down food.

Nah, it it isn't really that bad, but I use them for my bridge days between other offers, so I've been there maybe 20 days in the last 3 months. After a few days, it gets old and tiresome. Also, their stuff doesn't vary much from day to day, so it's even repetitive. (Once, just once, they actually had cheesy potato skins which was nice.)
The bit about going in hungry, sitting down, looking around, and suddenly not being hungry anymore is true though.

When I lived by Red Rock, I ate The Feast fairly often. Best in town for the money, which I thought was half price a lot (maybe for locals only?), but the line was terribly long if you didn't have a pass. GVR same thing. I ate Palace too once in a while due to having coupons. Palace is much smaller, but so is the price.
I'm prolly waaaay out of date on this vote, but the worst buffet for tourists used to be the IP/Quad. Expensive and bad. Lot of canned items.

The Railroad Pass buffet has an atmosphere like a family coffee shop. But what can I say, I like it. At Silver Sevens I had fresh spinach leaves, tomatoes, cucumber, croutons and a few other offerings with a ranch dressing. Absolutely wonderful salad. The main courses were pretty good. The deserts weren't fantastic but they were very good. When it comes to food, I guess I'm just humble and thankful. My meals are comped.
Good news, Zip. The old IP/Quad buffet has been improved. A lot. They closed it.Quote: zippyboyI'm prolly waaaay out of date on this vote, but the worst buffet for tourists used to be the IP/Quad. Expensive and bad. Lot of canned items.

This is where a higher tier card comes in handy. Presidential and Chairman both have separate shorter lines. Even during busy times, you get seated within a couple minutes.

Hahaha. I made the mistake of eating there once 10+ years ago, because I love Chinese cuisine so much. It was worse than what the cat dragged in, probably because the cat was on the buffet. Along with God knows what else.

Haha. I love eating at buffets. I often will eat anything except salmon... I even like cold food. I never heat up the leftovers at home which drives my wife crazy. Anyway I bring all of this up because my wife and I once had breakfast at Imperial Palace buffet. I think we paid like $10 after using some comps. I felt like I overpaid by $20. It was seriously the worst food I've ever had

On one of my first Vegas trip many years ago I saw the sign for the "Burger Palace" outside the IPA and thought this soundsl like an upscale Burger Joint. After going up I quickly realized it was a poor excuse for a Fast Food Burger Place. Luckily I had read about the buffet and never had the pleasure of eating there.

How did you handle back-offs at semi-remote casinos when you had taken the shuttle there? Seems like a bat situation to be in...you want to get off the property ASAP; waiting in the shuttle area where they have likely have cameras doesn't sound like a great idea.
Not sure whether to think "oh good, this is probably the safest spot in this time zone right now" or else "ruh-roh, this is the most likely time and place to get my car stolen, since every friggen one of 'em seems to be inside here all at once right now for the hour."
I get to Rio, get out, and a gust of wind rips the box out of my hands, sending it flying. It rolls along the ground and down a step before it stops.
The frosting was immaculate, except for a few pieces of gravel embedded in it.

Hey if I didn't vote "I'm a bigot" everytime a new poll came out, I might take issue with that. j/k
