Now I'll let the bean counters figure out depreciation and capital investment matters and just pose the question simply: wouldn't it be better for a casino to dump the tube tvs and put in flat panel stuff? Wouldn't it be better for a casino to put in a brighter light bulb or a better lamp or even an overhead electrical fixture of some sort than have a dark and foreboding hotel room?
That said, the room is dark naturally, with not a lot of light in the rooms. The photos give what I think is a fairly accurate depicition of the rooms. They are not stunning by any measure. Most rooms in LV have flat-panel TVs now.

Not true. I stayed 2 nights at IP and 3 nights at Harrahs all in the last month and neither had flat panel. And Harrahs was a king suite! So, if by "most rooms in LV", you mean all others but those two, you could be right. I stayed at Gold Coast over two years ago and they had flat panels then, but no HD programming, so it was kind of a waste.
But that's ok. I put the TV on in vegas only to catch the news before breakfast, and to make noise while I read a book before bed. a 12" B&W set would suffice :P
It seems that Caesars is content with leaving its hotels in a state of arrested decay. Check out the paint job at the top of the marquee:
I guess corners have to be cut somewhere in order to pay for CEO Gary Loveman's salary... LV Review-Journal
Quote: imperialpalaceTeddys is generally correct, with Caesars-owned hotels being a major exception. I also stayed at Harrahs LV in May 2010 and was stuck with the tube TV. In March 2011, I stayed at Planet Hollywood and Paris. Both hotel rooms were supplied with-- you guessed it-- tube TVs. Not that I am complaining: the rooms were comped. I happen stare into the gaze of a 13 inch tube TV at home every night. However, I could complain about the bedbugs that were so gracious to share the bed with me in Paris...

I stayed at Caesars in July and will be again this weekend, and my room had a flat panel TV. A lot of the midwest properties (Horseshoe Southern, Harrahs CB, Harrahs KC, and Harrahs St Louis) have upgraded at least one of their towers or all their rooms to include flat screens.
The only thing I can guess is that IP, Harrahs etc are due for renovation with Linq. It doesn't account for Paris or PH though... shame on them.
