This thread is to be used to discuss hotel accommodations at Rio.

I just read a comment here on the forum that maintenance at Rio is being 'deferred.' I have a stay planned there in March. Has anyone stayed there of late, and if so what were your impressions? Thanks!

I love the Rio. The 'bevertainers', as the cocktail waitresses are called, are second to none. The rooms, which they call suites, are really just big rooms, but I need nothing more. The table games dealers and pit bosses are always nice. I don't like the Carnival Buffet, but the Seafood buffet is good. The pools are nice, too. You also don't get the feel of all the people walking up and down the strip just stopping in to gawk. I noticed no 'maintenance problems' my last stay there in October.

Thanks. I stayed at Rio about a year ago and enjoyed it. Just curious as to any problems there of late. Agree as to the dealers and wait staff.

I just stayed there last weekend. We were in the Masquarade Tower, 14th floor. The room was decent, with some minor issues. They were:

The couch was worn and had a couple stains on it.
The safe was locked and we were unable to open it or reset it. (We didn't bother calling maintenance about it.)
The TV was an older tube model and the color kept kicking out on us.
The pillows were hard and lumpy feather pillows, not cushy foam ones. That didn't do any good for my neck.

On the plus side, we had a small refrigerator next to the vanity, and there was plenty of hot water with great water pressure. (I hate hotels that skimp on the water pressure.)

The hotel common areas looked nice, and the casino floor was clean and new. We only ate one meal at the Rio, so I can't really comment on the restaurants. The sports book area and poker room were slightly dated but not bad overall.

I was there in March for a week. The parking garage was filled with old televisions. The tower I was in had a new flat screen. The room was clean. House keeping was on time as we tipped 20 first day she showed up. Always had clean glasses, soap, coffee, towels and a clean bathroom. The only problem I had was that the pool area closed early the day I tried to get in. I was treated well by all employees. My sister hated the buffet. I enjoyed the cafe.

I like the hotel and will be there again in November.

Stayed there in March. The room was fine. I liked the "suite" size. There was a little window in the shower that looked out into the room...kinda strange but fun. We were in the masquerade tower. At first the water in the shower was cold. I called down to the front desk to tell them about it and was told to just let it run about 20 minutes and it will warm up. It did exactly that but what a waste of water! There was good coffee in the room. It also had a flat panel TV. The dealers were nice as was all staff. It was my first experience with the servers who took your drink order on an ipad and then a different person brought your drink. I didn't know who to tip so I asked (a dealer) and was told the order takers make the better hourly wage whereas the servers make their money off tips. He was glad I asked. Other than the long wait for hot water I have no complaints.

I feel the opposite. The Carnival Buffet, although a bit pricey, is my favorite buffet in all of Las Vegas.

I tried their Seafood Buffet once, because I LOVE most all types of seafood, and I remember being disappointed with it. I haven't been back to that since.

Why don't you like the Carnival Buffet? They have just about everything imaginable.

Good thinking about the tips ... and the asking a dealer... you got noticed for that! If you demonstrate your alertness to the situation regarding the order-taker/drink deliverer tipping needs the dealers will feel that you will be alert to their tipping needs as well.

Like the hotel rooms; couch is comfy if you need space w/ roommate for whatever reason. Appreciate that they're not overfurnished; room to stretch and easy to find the bathroom at 2am without lights and falling over furniture. Like the Carnival Buffet, seems to stay fresher than most, don't like the way the Seafood Buffet smells like day old shellfish, so rarely eat there.

Find the casino/resort to be cavernous; think the WSOP was a good choice there; they had too much room going to waste. Their dealers can be snooty, but most are welcoming. Table minimums sometimes held high too long for demand; wish they were more flexible on that. Not fond of 4x minimums both hands to play a second hand of PGP. Overall a good place to play.

A good place to stay. A good, but perhaps declining place to eat. Now if any of our members care to go to the various bars while dripping in Rolexes and drink to excess, I think we will find that their only other problem has been very well dealt with and security rather than hookers will show up for the escort to the hotel room.

I live in Las Vegas but consider the Rio one of my favorite hotels. I have been there this week for the national pocket billiards tournament. The rooms are a good size although they are starting to become a little dated. The pool area is very nice and I eat at the Voodo restaurant every night. I don't think I have had either of their buffets in many years. I don't gamble a lot there, but when I do they have $1 8/5 Bonus Five Play and $5 9/6 Jacks or Better.

Ingress and Egress seems to also be very smooth.

Will stay there this May, never stayed there before, any updates about the hotel? I have only been there once, went for the seafood buffet and stayed to play for a bit. Loved the buffet, as for the gambling, it was ok, altough I found there one of the only 3 really rude dealers I've run into in Vegas

Rooms are terribly planned, been in three, and it's super hard to watch TV while in bed. Dim sum is great. If you're a connoisseur, compare it to Ping Pang Pong next door. I find the dealers and staff to be a step above low level strip (Bally's, Flamingo, Excalibur) but below high end. They're forced to compete for locals, it makes for a more customer friendly experience.
