Surprisingly good choice for downtown. There is a good Spanish tapas place called Firefly , a bare bones buffet called Stuffed, and a popular breakfast eatery called Omelet House .

Also a large selection of fast food, and a snack bar called the grill.

Lombardi's was an in house Italian place, but I think it has closed.

Tried the new Island Sushi place and it was pretty decent. Service was great and the live music was good. I had a burger. My friend had the sushi but said it tasted like supermarket sushi.

By and large you should avoid sushi around Fremont street. It tends to go from bad to awful. The Chart House at Golden Nugget is the only real exception, and it is very expensive.

You are much better off sticking to traditional favorites downtown, and going to the proper suburbs for sushi.

The only thing worth eating downtown is $1 Nathan's hot dogs from Mermaids, $2 shrimp cocktails from Golden Gate, and $2 Spam Musubi from Fremont.

Idk. I literally studied some of your blogs about downtown hotel/casino/restaurants because they were that good. They even helped me make some money and stay postive EV most of the trip. Regarding food downtown I thought Tinoco's was pretty good. The Chicago pizza at Four Queens was very good.

There's a snack bar at in the California that serves pretty good Spam musubi (rice and fried spam, seasoned with teriyaki sauce and wrapped in seaweed). The fried wonton is also quite good. It's just inside the doors closest to Binion's.

At the Plaza, the tapas place, "Firefly" closed, and will not re-open. Has Oscar's place opened yet?

Roger, thanks for the kind words. Did you play exclusively on the BJ machines at Vegas Club? That is one of the better plays downtown.

Just had another Spam Musubi today. This is the best thing ever.

Other than my first sports bet and watching my girlfriend waste my free slot play that's pretty much all the gambling I did. I earned 2500 points in a couple hours and they gave me 180 in free slot play. Not sure if they made a mistake but that was almost double what they had in writing for the promotion. They gave me a raffle ticket for each 100 points I earned and I ended up getting my ticket picked to spin a money wheel. Great deal all around.

Excellent! There is a lot of equity in those drawings. Umm...you didn't play last Saturday did you? I think I might have played with you. You won $400 on the money wheel, right?

Spam of itself is a crime. Spam Sushi? I think I just died a little inside.

Hawaiians love Spam, it's been huge there since the GI's brought it in WWII. Two 3.5 ounce cans and you have your recommended Daily Intake of saturated fat for the whole day.

I have checked up on this and the Government has said:

Spiced Pork and Ham kept my grandparents going during the war. I've friends who still swear by a good spam fritter. It's like baloney... you either love it or you have taste buds (grin).

I tried the new pizza place at the Plaza named Pop Up Pizza. This place serves New York style pizza at about $3.75 per slice. The pizza is better than anything I have locally but I prefer the deep dish at 4 Queens or Benny's Bullpen (Binions).

Zabas is also pretty good here. It is very similar to the restaurant Chipotle with slightly higher prices.

This is from Oscar's Steakhouse. I got a comp for over there from the Player's club after asking for one.

When I sat down, the waiter already knew my name (without me giving them my name when I arrived).

I was treated like someone very special, and it was really pretty damn awesome.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with us. I left at night, so I got to watch the scene change. But I really enjoyed listening to you make a negative comment followed by an order. It just forever associates your name with what was a 100% pleasant experience.

Further solidifying in my mind what type of person you are.

I won't argue with you. You are the expert on that subject.

I only had pleasant thoughts about the matter until you enlightened me.

I'm surprised at the "presenation" of the shrimp cocktail? Nice looking shrimp, but not much of a presentation. While you didn't have a picture of the steak how was the plating? (presentation)

(My family was in the restaurant business and I think I spend too much time watching Chopped.)

And it's not an ugly view. I was up there during the day and it's kind of dramatic. In fact, it's nice to find a restaurant in Vegas with windows that look out at something.

My favorite steak house was always Nero's until it closed and your only view was the walls.

Looks great. Have to agree with you two, the meal and the service is the key, not the view. We were always partial to Le Artists at Paris before it changed to Gordon Ramseys. Strip House at PH is also a good choice, both with no outside view.

Would like to try Oscars but I always end up drinking too much at 777Brewpub at MSS to feel like a big meal when Downtown.

I liked this forum better when I had no idea who you were, Bob.

Since we're on the subject, I find your posts ugly, useless, and tangential to most discussions.

its something obviously new to you. You must have

I liked Fremont so much better before they put up that
crappy canopy and ruined it.

I just returned from Vegas. I stayed at the GN the first three nights like I always do and moved to the Plaza the last night. I really like the Plaza as it is much less crowded and much quicker to get to the casino. The room was actually as good or better. Anyway I ate at the Hash house a go-go twice. The first time I had the regular ham and eggs and it was good but not great. The second time I had the BIG OL' CHICKEN POT PIE and it was one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten. Incredibly delicious crust, chicken, veggies and a humongous portion.

PS- I saw the Louie Anderson show and it was really funny.

Do you get a lighted vanity at the room in the Plaza?

I like eating there because I basically get two meals rather than one. I eat what I can for lunch, say, and take the rest to my room and eat it for dinner. Food can keep for a few hours without refrigeration. if you need to keep it overnight, then simply grab the plastic bag that serves as lining for the ice bucket and fill it with ice, then put it inside the box with the food.
