I find this hard to believe. Anyone think this is viable?
The article mentions they're planning on charging a lot more and want to attract high rollers. Good luck with that.
Reminds me of when CET renovated Imperial Palace into the Quad and then into the Linq. They were going to try to charge more and attract better clientele. It didn't work out like that. You can only put so much lipstick on a pig.
Or I’m going totally crazy, or both.
I wonder if MGM called them on it as it hasn’t been reported elsewhere.
Quote: BozWas there yesterday in the story. Looks like they removed that part and added to it from the original.

Either both and I'm also going the exact same kind of crazy or they just took it out. I know I saw it yesterday also, I believe twice in the article, and now also am not finding it.

I usually agree with the "lipstick on a pig" argument, but the difference here maybe the fact that Monte Carlo is it is attached to Aria on one side and has the new T Mobile Arena/Park area next door...the poor IP had the run down Flamingo & Harrah's as it's neighbors.
I bet an upgrade for NYNY is next on MGM's project list...that block of the Strip starting at Bellagio and going south to NYNY (including T Mobile Arena) is going to be the Flagship piece of MGM's Las Vegas holdings...and they are going to want it all to lean/attract upscale clientele.

Yes, NYNY is long overdue for a renovation inside. They're currently renovating the tower rooms at Luxor as well (I believe they just finished doing the pyramid rooms).
Wouldn't be surprised if we see some "rebranding" of Mandalay Bay in the not too distant future either to try to dilute the association with the shooting.
I applaud their idea to find a new niche, but without a world-class night club like Hakkasan at MGM to draw in the younger gamblers it will never work.
That would be MGM's best venue to try to test / introduce new, cutting edge games as well.
Be interesting to see how it unfolds.
They need to implode the Excalibur, that's just a cheesy eyesore, inside and out.
Quote: Mission146Yeah, but it has the jousting show. That’s the only one I actually want to see eventually.

I just saved you a bunch of money on entertainment.
Quote: Mission146You did not provide me with a dinner. Also, that video just made me want to see it more. I go to the Renaissance Faire every year!
I agree and I wish more casinos had ridiculous theming.
However, the description makes it sound like Park MGM is going to be separate from Monte Carlo, instead of a rebranding, and the Monte Carlo site lists room rates through October.
What's the status?

Rooms are mostly done being renovated. Casino too. I believe the pools opened this week.
Front of the property is a complete mess right now. Can't really access it from the strip, have to take a detour to a side entrance.
