The Casuarina is dead. Long live The Max.

Actually, ownership didn't change hands. Your Casuarinas card will still be honored at the Westin.

I think I can safely say that not a single person will miss this casino. I was there twice and both times the place was dead.

I played craps one time, as a newbie, when the casino was Maxim.

Never forget the hateful looks I got from the craps crew and the shooter when I bought in: the shooter was betting big money, and had the gold chain / pompador / attitude of an old school wise guy.

Obviously they wanted the table for him only.

Got out of there pronto, never to return.

The Maxim was one of my regular stops when I first started. I think I still have some Maxim bucks.

I'm fairly certain Evel Knievel played poker there often.

There's been a few good plays at the Westin.

I'm sad to see it go.

Hey great, exactly what Las Vegas needs slightly off the strip, a restaurant !

Any ideas on what could be revised at the Casino to make it attractive to gamblers, but not entirely a sweaty locals joint ?

Well the good thing is they are not totally closing instead they are now refocusing their business. Even they are now striping it's casino they will still retain some slots in their restaurant which is still good. The next time you visit them you will surely missed their casino.

It feels like a long walk to get there, but the reality is that it is about the same as walking from the MGM's parking garage to their casino... on second thought, that is pretty far.

They obviously needed a Sigma Derby and beer pong☺

A gambling strip club perhaps.

Ellis Island seems to be doing well.

I rarely seen any advertising from them, they rarely ran good promotions. They got super burnt on a promotion years ago.

I don't think I ever got an email or mailer from them even when I did play there. For all I know they could've had good mail or something, but I haven't heard anything in a long time.
They didn't have anything interesting, it was kinda dull, Basically people just forgot about it.
I couldn't even tell you what restaurants they had other than a Starbucks.

I do remember the Maxim being fairly busy in the 90's. People seemed to love them Maxim bucks they got for hitting stuff IIRC $25 or more got you one perhaps it was any 4 of a kind or $25.

Cheap, but good, Prime Rib dinners go a long way. It think it would help to have a visible location. When you are halfway down a long block with nothing on either side, folks aren't going to just wander in. I think Hooter's suffered the same problem.
