I recently made a special trip to this casino, which is inside the Westin on Flamingo Road, because of a very attractive sign-up offer. The casino will reimburse the first $50 you lose in slots or video poker (though the VP payback is lousy), so it's basically a $50 free roll. On top of that, you get a $10 table game matchplay, and on top of that, there's a $25 matchplay in the latest American Casino Guide. I found out about this trifecta here: http://vegasoffthestrip.blogspot.com/
I almost never play slots, but I decided to use my free roll on a machine that could have a big jackpot -- dollar Wheel of Fortune. I jumped ahead $60 immediately and decided to quit there, rather than sink back down to -$50 and be reimbursed.

Hmmm.....
If you had cashed out $60 ahead, then put $50 in and lost that, (either in the same or different machine), would that have been reimbursed?

I don't think so. At least, that's not the spirit of the promotion.

I should correct this to say that you're reimbursed in free play after you lose $50. Took my girlfriend here over the weekend and she hit the same machine for $520 after just a few pulls. No reimbursement needed.

I see, so you have to be down net $50 before you get reimbursed... so you would have had to lose $110 from your top? Good choice on quitting then, you're a better man than I.

I did this promotion last year, its a really good one..........plus its very close to the strip, so no reason not to stop over there for a bit and do it.
Also, if you go midweek, they have a gambling happy hour, which sports $3 craps and $.25 roulette

The reimbursement has been reduced to $25, unfortunately. Still worth the short walk from the Flamingo.

Its fifty dollars in slot play, not cash.
Its only for that first day's play, not 24 hours.
I imagine if you were going to play slots anyway, it might be worth it.

depending on their procedure, you can probably get away with it on different shifts on the same day. if they just eye it and drop it, then definitely.

I was just there to use the ACG coupon, and was surprised that they don't open their table games until 3:00 pm, at least on a weekday !
There's emptiness behind their eyes
There's dust in all their hearts
They just want to steal us all and take us all apart

I was there at 3:00 back on Memorial Day or maybe the day after, also to play the ACG coupon. The pit wasn't open. I asked an employee if/when it would open and she didn't seem to know. Very odd.

I meant to stop at the Westin this summer while in Vegas but couldn't or (chose not to) squeeze it in. When in town, I'm not on any schedule other than to put in time at a decent blackjack game. This visit would have been purely nostalgic.
I played a lot of blackjack there in the mid to late 80's. It was called the Maxim back then and offered some fantastic single deck blackjack. I met several card counters there and we played with virtually no heat betting any way we pleased whenever we pleased. Eventually, I pushed to far and was backed off a few times only to return on another shift to continue my play. I finally got barred from blackjack but never from the property.
I was a pretty good counter but stubborn about cover. This was my personal ATM machine and I could do whatever I pleased. My fellow players warned me but I wouldn't listen. As far as I know, no one else in my circle was looked at twice let alone barred.
It just goes to show how cocky/stupid one can be. Those were good and profitable times.
Does anyone remember the Maxim?
