It was probably boring to stay there. Not much to do but gamble. In my 13 years in this town, I think I've been there twice only.
The rooms don't sound very nice with the stained carpets, general condition and the little things.
Quote: MoosetonFunny, I never thought of the dispensers as tacky til you just brought it up. My wife and I stayed at Cannery once. I gambled through the night and by some miracle eeked out a small win. She slept through the night and woke up with spider bites in the morning.
Yikes, dispensers are nothing vs. spider bites. Given mission's poor review of his room, I would hesitate to say it's bad luck that she got them. :-\

Actually, I quite enjoyed my stay...except the room. The pool was very comfortable, and I had it all to myself, so I didn't have to be embarrassed about having such a hairy chest. Besides, Free X-Box 360!
I think that it's a great place to spend an entire day, to be quite honest. Of all of the Vegas casinos I have been to, if someone said, "You get to go to Vegas, but only for ten hours, and you can only pick one casino," Cannery would probably be my first choice.
Quote: tringlomaneGood report! But I think one of the Cannery slams was a bit rough. I think Drury Hotels use soap/shampoo dispensers too, but that's definitely an above average hotel chain. But considering how the hotel acts for everything else, I'm not entrirely sure why Drury uses dispensers. Cannery using them makes more sense though.
Thanks for the compliment!
I'm surprised to hear that Drury does that, but I haven't stayed at one of those before. I still think it is kind of chintzy compared to giving people nice individual soap/shampoo, I think most guests expect that at just about every hotel. Besides, it's fun to take the unused ones, you feel like you're stealing, but you're not, hotels basically expect you to take them.

Probably not, I killed a spider in my room, but I didn't include that. The occasional spider is a fact of life, even for hotels that have regular pest treatments, which we do.
It is still amazing to me that the one thing that a hotel has absolute control over that can really make a difference to a customers experience, the customer service so often lacks in quality. Somehow I think the saying, "you get what you pay for" might ring true here.
There are many locals casinos, especially the ones in Henderson (Sunset and GVR) where the people are like family and they really go all out to make your time there hospitable and fun.
If there is one pet peeve I cannot handle is that when I go to a property I don't get the most common of courtesy's such as a heloo or can we help you with anything or thank you or any of these types of things.
I go all out (and I'm sure Mission does too!) when I'm in a customer service roll.
I have found that certain areas in Vegas are hit and miss with customer relations.......and that is one area that should always be top notch!
Quote: mcallister3200It's just not realistic for customer service to always be top notch. Ya can't expect 100% or even 90% of customer relations people to be good when most of them are pretty crappy jobs.
That is where you are mistaken. Customer Service shouldn't cost you a single dime. It is something that all people who work in the service industry should have naturally, especially those who are on the front line.
It has too long been the sickness in casinos around town that "it is too difficult to be ON all the time" so I can just be shitty every now and then if I want to be. We are from the USA so therefore we can do whatever we want........
I can't tell you how many times I have stepped into a junly 7-11 and gotten excellent service.......
Sometimes, apart from being part of your job, being nice is most definitely a choice.
In such a neighborhood I would expect the casino to stand out: no homeless encampments, no bullets in the parking lot, etc. but I also would expect there to have been little invested in hotel refurbishing.
At first I had this feeling I had read it before, which is impossible, as I have been away from the keyboard for several days. Then I figured it out, in addition to bitching about room filters, it was the bit about not getting paid for the match play at Craps.

Thanks for the compliment, I'd play at your place anytime, as long as the VP doesn't suck.
They have absolute control over the cleanliness of the rooms, as well, the attempt should at least be there. Old stained up carpets, taken alone, aren't really a huge deal to me. There's no health hazard if they are clean (just stained), just a lack of aesthetic appeal. However, when you look around at vents that...I can't believe any sentient being with disposable thumbs could see that and not be inclined to do something about it...I mean, they just don't care. It's nothing more or less, they can't care, because if they did care, that couldn't happen.
Customer service is something that I don't necessarily pin on an entire establishment to the extent that I would say, "I'll never go back because of the service," the main reason being is that it comes down to individual human beings at individual moments. If I were to go to a place over at least a handful of visits and the service was consistently bad, that'd be one thing, but we're talking about three individuals who annoyed me on an individual visit out of ten (or more) individuals with whom I interacted. I imagine the three will be weeded out, in time, if this is a recurring thing for them.

I'd consider it, except the Reviews are really intended more for travelers/visitors, anyway, so I'm just saying that this isn't somewhere you want to stay if you have even a modicum of concern with room condition. I don't care what the crime rate in NLV is, that's not a free pass to be a dump, in terms of rooms, especially not when charging more than many other Vegas casinos, particularly those Downtown, and having rate parity with Eastside.

Right, from my trip report. I think that was a hint as to how this Review would go. Guest Services and Room Condition, the property has a ton of good things going for it and could very easily score an 8+ with a renovation to the rooms and better cleanliness.
Even without a renovation, I'd still give it a 5 if there were no egregious cleaning errors. It's certainly not the first place I've stayed where the carpet could stand to be replaced, I bet it could in a couple of my rooms, too, but that's a process when you're selling out every night. Opportunity Cost sucks, so the only day I can really do anything like that is Sunday.

Man, I'm glad I don't have disposable thumbs! I've grown rather attached to these two...
I was going for, "Opposable," and apparently mistyped in some fashion that the stupid auto-correct thought I wanted 'disposable.'
