The strip casinos need to designate smoking lounges for the tourists who have no other legal place to get high.
C'mon, it's "sin city" for christ sake.
Quote: MrVI see that a 420 friendly, i.e. marijuana friendly, casino will open soon off strip.

There will not be a casino with anyone smoking marijuana in it anytime soon.
That outfit bought the Artisan, which is located pretty much under the I-15 freeway, on Sahara. About five years ago there was an article about how you could rent the entire hotel for a night, every room and all its common areas, for $7500. Actually not a bad boutique hotel other than the location, reminiscent of something you'd expect to find in the mid-Wilshire or Hollywood areas of Los Angeles. But the Artisan is never going to have a casino, and they'll have to divide up its lobby which isn't all that big, if they plan to make a separate smoking lounge there. The Clarendon in Phoenix, which is owned by the outfit that bought the Artisan, does not allow cannabis smoking anywhere in its common areas - only in hotel rooms.
I don't believe that the new licensing for marijuana consumption lounges in Vegas allows for alcohol service, and the Artisan does have a bar, so not sure how they are going to solve that conflict, if they do create a public cannabis lounge.
Currently, pot smoking is tolerated on the Strip only as long as it happens outside or in hotel rooms, and that is not going to change anytime soon. Tolerated means illegal, but I haven't heard of anyone being busted for weed since Hunter S. Thompson times.
Until about a year ago, there was a giant billboard on the outskirts of Las Vegas, saying:
DON’T GAMBLE WITH MARIJUANA!
IN NEVADA: POSSESSION - 20 YEARS SALE - LIFE!
There is no formula for finding yourself in Vegas with a white Cadillac full of drugs and nothing to mix with properly. The Fillmore style never quite caught on here. People like Sinatra and Dean Martin are still considered "far out" in Vegas. The "underground newspaper" here - the Las Vegas Free Press - is a cautious echo of The People's World, or maybe the National Guardian.

Artisan or Siegel?
Whatever, soon folks will be able to get high in their hotel room and a 420 lounge without having to turn on the fan and stuffing a towel under the door.
That's progress.

Soon?
What is your source?
(I don't want to say "what are you smoking?" because that would be misconstrued as an insult.)
Sounds like the Lucky Dragon.Quote: AlanMendelsonThe original hotel had an Asian themed casino which targeted visiting Chinese tourists. It failed. The casino was small in what is now the lobby.

Based on the article, it sounds like they are allowing folks to smoke in their hotel room.
I agree it will never happen on the casino floor, at least until it is federally legal.

Sorry. This is a non casino hotel.
Twenty years ago it would have been unthinkable.
Here's a question: do Las Vegas casinos call the police on any guests they discover smoking weed in their room or on casino property?
Any known cases out there?
You are confusing two hotels that have similar names, are close to each other, and both on Sahara.Quote: AlanMendelsonQuote: AxelWolfSounds like the Lucky Dragon.Quote: AlanMendelsonThe original hotel had an Asian themed casino which targeted visiting Chinese tourists. The Lucky Dragon is now the Ahern and is adjacent to the strip souvenir shop.
The Artisan is the hotel named in the article, and is a couple hundred yards to the west, adjacent to I-15.

Thank you.
Also a non casino hotel? That's really the point here.
Today a hotel, tomorrow a casino?
I wasn't confused/confusing the two, I know the difference between the two properties, I was giving the name of the casino I assumed Alan was talking about.Quote: DJTeddyBearYou are confusing two hotels that have similar names, are close to each other, and both on Sahara.Quote: AlanMendelsonQuote: AxelWolfSounds like the Lucky Dragon.Quote: AlanMendelsonThe original hotel had an Asian themed casino which targeted visiting Chinese tourists. Let's take a look...
"The casino inside that hotel was closed and its equipment was sold off."
The original hotel had an Asian themed casino which targeted visiting Chinese tourists. It failed. The casino was small in what is now the lobby. I'm almost certain that describes the Lucky Dragon.
