An offshoot from another thread, the poll questions is "What were your favorite Vegas implosions?"

There have been more than ten but that's the poll max. This video offers a recap...

Heh, Burning Man eat your heart out. I would assume that pictures and videos don't do justice to witnessing these things live and would ask those of you who have attended one of these events a few questions...

Do you prefer daytime implosions where you get a good look at the collapse, or nighttime ones with the added fireworks and assorted pyrotechnics?

What is the crowd atmosphere like at one of these events? A fun tailgate party? A more somber wake?
Have you tried 22 tonight? I said 22.

I was in every one of those casinos
back in the day. Implosions are
great if you're a dust fan.

The video has the Stardust implosion date as 1991. That was the year that the last tower was constructed. The implosion occurred in 2007.

I voted Castaways, not for quality of implosion but due to an experience. IIRC, it was formerly the Showboat and I got kicked out of there in 1999 due to a dealer error.

Tomorrow is roasted smoked sausage on
a bed of sliced cabbage, sauerkraut, onions,
garlic, white wine. Cayenne and cloves mixed
in and olive oil on everything to keep it from
drying out. Bake till the sausage is dark on
top. Add parmesan cheese if you like. Have
a dark beer with his.

Sauerkraut would give me explosions not implosions.

I rather like the Castaway implosion. It was a clean kill (for want of a better expression), a very professional job.

I ended up voting for the Sands since it's interesting how it topples onto its side (which they seemed to expect to happen). I also voted for The Landmark since it's interesting how it vertically shears in half and collapses in two pieces.

I voted for the Landmark. Slicing the tower in half was unique. I would have picked the Stardust, just for the sheer mass, but the lights went out before the most important part of show. I've always wondered if that was on purpose, or an accident. It was a big let down watching it live on T.V.

Looking ahead, I would really like to see them bring down the Stratosphere tower in one implosion. I'm pretty sure, no matter which direction it toppled, it would only be an improvement to that neighborhood.

The Dunes was great because of the way Wynn used the Treasure Island cannons to make a show out of it. Still was a big part of the death of old Vegas.
