How close is Downtown Grand to opening?
Then again, that page talks about how it will be a fine addition to sister site Golden Spike!

I'm trying to think of another Las Vegas casino with this non-smoking room policy and only 3 properties come to mind: MGM Signature, the Westin, and the J.W. Marriott. Vdara is non-smoking, but it doesn't have a casino attached to it.
Is this a poor business decision on the part of Downtown Grand? Or irrelevant?
Quote: renoApparently 100% of the hotel rooms at the Downtown Grand will be non-smoking. Interesting.

I'm not sure they have a "choice." Like the Westin and J.W. Marriott, I think the Grand is operated by a company (Choice Hotels) whose whole line is smoke free.

Well, by that logic the new SLS Las Vegas (former Sahara) will be smoke-free, too.

Maybe SLS will make a different decision. But, if their Vegas property is as high-end as their other hotels it'd hardly be surprising if they didn't allow smoking in the Vegas hotel either.

That's only the case with some of their brands, which brand is this hotel? If it is an Ascend Collection hotel, then they go by the closest comparable brand.

Yes, it's an Ascend Collection hotel. Is the closest comp geographic or stylistic? Either way, I suppose it'd be another one of the downtown casinos...

My understanding of the Ascend Collection Hotels is that if you have a hotel that was previously an independent, but has a name of some significance, the hotel may retain its previous name, but is held to the brand standards of the closest comparable branded hotel. That's not a geographical thing, it's just brand standards. For example, if it was considered comparable to a Comfort Suites, and adhered to those brand standards, then they would have to be non-smoking because new Comfort Suites properties (and possibly all, don't remember) are to be non-smoking. If it is considered comparable to an Econo Lodge, and held to those brand standards, then a certain percentage of the rooms could be smoking because they can with Econo Lodge.
Also, what Boz said, because a hotel of any brand (or an Ascend Collection Hotel comparable to any brand) can be fully non-smoking, if they wish.
But taking hotel stays starting Oct 27. Maybe a soft opening then a big GRAND opening?
Will be in Vegas Nov 2 to 7. I was hoping it would be open then. Will definitely take a walk over there.
Also hoping the container park will be open when I get to downtown Vegas.
I saw a show at the old Lady Luck years back, Stars of the Strip. An impersonators show, Sonny and Cher, Rod Stewart ect. It was free so I thought, why not.
