It happens very often for me ( I edit posts more frequently than most ) The edits all seem to proceed ok, so I treat it as a minor irritation.Quote: onenickelmiraclehopefully it doesn't happen to everyone else like tends to happen lately.
Here's the background on my problem, even though it might be irrelevant to this thread:
I have only encountered problems when editing and saving very long posts. Specifically, the long posts where I have encountered the problem are the three posts that constitute the index to the Casino Chip of the Day thread (first three posts of the thread.) I have not had a problem with any other post edits.
On those three posts (and I edit one or two of them every time someone adds a new chip to the thread), when I hit the "SAVE" button, the page goes completely blank and maintains a URL indicating that it is still editing the post. There is no clean way to go directly back to the thread. When I do get there, I find that the post was indeed saved correctly. At least it has been so far, but I am worried about the possibility of losing the thread index permanently if this is really a serious software glitch.
This started back in mid-July. Several years ago, I got some very good assistance on such matters from JB, but I didn't know whether he was still involved in forum software. I sent JB a Private Message on 7/21, giving details on the problem and asking whether he was still the person to go to for assistance.
JB responded on 7/24, saying he was no longer doing the forum programming, but he would forward my message to Zuga. I waited for a further reply, but when I did not receive one for more than a week, I sent a PM directly to Zuga on 8/2, copying my conversation with JB and offering to provide more details if they were needed. Zuga replied the next day, saying that he would forward the matter to Miroslavlav, who is now doing the programming.
It is now 8/18, and I have received no further response at all, after waiting more than two weeks. I am not sure how I should interpret that. The problems are continuing with every edit of those posts. It would seem that repeatable, improper performance of the forum software is an issue that would warrant attention, but maybe not.
Yet, when I edited this one, to include I was using the chrome browser, didn't have the same problem. Come to think of it, the time I had the error, it was editing a new post I had just posted. Fingers crossed no problems this time, assume there were no problems, is this meta?
if I edit a reply to a post, then I don't get the error.
Quote: Dalex64I'm now getting these, pretty frequently, when I post or edit a post. It takes a while, returns a 500 error, but the post seems to have been saved.
I'm getting the same thing and then I notice that it doesn't show me as the last poster in the thread.
Now, numerous people -- including the Wizard -- are getting multiple posts, and I doubt this is a case of user errors. There is another issue I have noted that may be related. Right now the Recent Threads page (even when refreshed) shows that the "Grinder backpacking Europe" thread has three pages. However, there are already three posts on page 4 of that thread. I have no idea how to explain that.
I thought it was me.
Create a new post and get a white screen. I reload the recent posts page and it doesnt show but the post is there if I go to it.
Weird.
Edit: including this post.
error 1: 30sec posting time
error 2: HTTP500 error
error 3: post posted anyway, despite the error message
error 4: when I went to the forum homepage to refresh, djteddybears post showed as most recent, but this one was actually there, just didn't reflect in the list.
other error: page is retrieving to last read, rather than 1st unread, within a thread
You can read the forum, but you're not allowed to post.
You're the bestest poster but you're getting screwed by the host.
Someone, someone.... is to blame.
Quote: onenickelmiracleThey need to rehire JB. None of this happened with him around. Wish both sites were still easy to navigate, miss that.
DT works fine
I posted in the Trump and Burning Man
Posts are not putting the thread on top
The view of the threads on the right show the last poster but that's wrong also

Yeah, that was odd as well. I deleted her dupes there, as well as many others.
Zuga reported back this morning that this issue should be resolved at this time. Please report if you continue to see problems. Working fine so far for me since the reset.

What I reported earlier is still the case at 1:19PM EDT on 9/7/18: The recent threads page shows that the "Grinder backpacking Europe" thread only has three pages, while there are (at least) three posts on page four of that thread.
