Quote: mcallister3200The Boyd and Stations buying out virtually all competition in the local market trend can't be good for consumers
I agree. The Palms ceased to be a good value for locals years ago, so the news doesn't bother me that much.
Quote: PokerGrinderYou think that Stations keeps it as the Palms? Pretty solid brand I think, maybe I am wrong.
I predict they will leave the name the same. The main change will be that they will go to the Stations player card.
Quote: IbeatyouracesI doubt it will be as bad as if Caesars or MGM got it though.
Agreed.
Quote: AxelWolfHorrible news.
I was actually thinking that all this consolidation has got to be horrible for AP's.
ABSOLUTELY.Quote: PokerGrinderI was actually thinking that all this consolidation has got to be horrible for AP's.
You need different places to come up with different marketing ideas.
5 different places might make 5 simular mistakes if it's ran by 5 different corporations.
5 places ran by one corporation will not usually make the same mistakes.
It's been a very long time since I have been to the Palms. I have no record of having played there since I started tracking my sessions in 2009. In fact, the only record I can find of ever being there (other than a souvenir chip) is a credit card record of spending $13.84 on "dining" there in November 2005. Yeah, we must have been living the high life to be dining at that level. My recollection is that we picked up a late-night bite at a café there, and that probably was when I picked up my souvenir, since it shows the 2005 date quite clearly.Quote: PokerGrinderYou think that Stations keeps it as the Palms? From my perspective, the only potential "good" news from this is the slim possibility that they will change the name and offer a new souvenir opportunity.
I didn't know his wife got 86ed. But I would guess that she ran to many double 4 of a kind coupons.Quote: RomesMind if I ask how/why your wife was 86'd from there? =p
At one time you could get them very easy and play them on the $2 denomination. IIRC at the beginning you could play 1 per shift without a problem.

And which one was it?

Bingo!!! BTW, this was before we were together.
I was surprised how many people were running them on the $0.25 games. If I remember correctly the max bonus was $250 so the $2 JOB was the best play.
I wonder what Station's is going to do with the casino space? Can it be expanded? Do any other Stations properties promote clubs like Palms' Rain or Ghostbar? $1,000 bottles don't strike me as a Stations "thing".
Quote: WizardofnothingA couple years ago if I recall correctly I was scheduled to go out there when the host called me and said don't bother !!! We just cut the table limits on every single game across the board
For about a year, they had their high limit room closed (it looked "open" but a dealer told me they had not staffed a table in it in over a year), and they had lowered the max on BJ to $1K. Keep in mind that you can walk across the street to the Gold Coast - a decidedly lower budget place - and bet $3K. I haven't been back in there in a few months, but my host did say they have raised the BJ max to a whopping $2K now.
That said, I did just get an email offer from them a few weeks ago, which hadn't happened in a very long time. So it looks like they were trying to reassemble their marketing department before the sale to Station.
I like the Palms. I like the decent drink service. I like that it's not too crowded. I like the 100.7 % DW (got 2 RF's there in one day once upon a time) and I was planning to give that a whirl again on my upcoming trip. I like the movie theater to take a break from things (saw the latest Star Wars there). I like the good lunch buffet pricing.
Quote: WizardofnothingI always felt the smaller corporations were wayyyyyyyy better, surprised wizard said palms had no value, I seem to remember they having some decent stuff time to time
Maybe I got put on their "no mail" list but I used to be a heavy player there but my mail suddenly became quite stingy several years ago. I generally hear much less chatter about them in AP circles than I did back when I played.
They used to run good promotions, they had the $1 10/7 progressive, they were fairly generous with easy to get match plays and the mail was fairly good. They even had an elite level list for mail offers that gave up to 5k a pop IIRC.
The mail and promotions just kept dwindling over time. The drawings they did have seemed to favor a few players. They also had some inside help trying to foil AP's.
- Palms cocktail servers.
- It was easy to park there. Probably still is.
- Excellent recruitment of cocktail servers.
- And they provided me with valuable car-wash tokens, which I could still be persuaded to sell to Axel.
- Same cocktail birds?
- Drunk nightclub-reject ultra-douche kid having cocktail tray 'accidentally' showered on him & his silk shirt at poker table.
- My anonymous heroine, a brave little poker room cocktail server. Rumored to be available to provide informal showers of sticky fruity cocktails & condiments.
