I recently went to Vegas where I loved playing Wheel of fortune progressive Slots. Are there any of these slots anywhere else, any other states?

They're complete garbage and are in about practically every casino in the country.

Any reason they are worse than other slots?

Well, as a themed and licensed slot, they are historically more likely to have a worse return than (some) other slots of the same denomination.

The ones with actual mechinical spinning reels are generally as good or better than the typical penny video slot machine.
At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.

My experience as well. They give great sensory feedback and scratch the slot itch as well as any machine you'll find, while making you itch even more. The higher denominations pay back pretty well in most places, with $5 x 2 per spin being the sweet spot.
There are lots of iterations on the WoF theme, including 5x5 video slots. I assume you are talking about the 3x3 reel/video version that is most common. On newer ones you can play 5 lines and need wheel/wheel/wheel to get the spin, on older ones you play one line and need wheel on the third line only. Those are the ones I look for. There is even a video version where you can play 4 games of single line at once. Yikes!
But yeah, it's pretty popular.
Regarding paybacks of actual sets of machines, trust the regulars. There are usually multiple installations in any casino. If a bank of machines is sitting empty, it is probably set low. Look for the bank where people are playing.
A falling knife has no handle.

Most likely the $1. I've seen the quarter close to 1/2 million before.

Yep, .25 denomination. Max bet was 1.25, though, not .75 . I don't play them enough to know if the 3 coin machines have a progressI've attached, but the first generation WoF machines were 3 coin.

If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.
