Hi AxelWolf,

You have got it Wrong.

There is Only 5 for YES answers.

There is only one for NO answer, because No means (INFINITY) that is 999999999.........
e.g. (NO, maybe YES later) (NO for a Week) (NO for a Month) etc...

P.S. The POLL is for one item per member only.

People are weird. Vegas forum so I prefer to see a bunch of threads about that stuff. I posted a few topics that I thought were interesting and they get 3 replies. A stupid politics thread gets 800.

Personally those threads where you posted 30 stories are too long. I think you should pick 1-3 of the best stories or the most polarizing ones and post those opposed to the entire wire.

You are not going to get a desired result on your poll. I think Soopoo mentioned, what people would want is if you find a news article interesting then post the article and then post your thought about that article. No one wants just a list because we can get that from the LVJ or other news sites. We want discussion on items and the best way to have a discussion is to actually start a discussion.

I read gambling-related news items all the time and also see them discussed on other forums. I think that the problem with the daily posts with a huge list of stories is that it doesn't easily lead to discussion, while thread about Caesars thinking that cutting comps will increase revenue, MGM 2020 or whatever it is called, etc. lead to conversations about particular items.

If I ruled the roost here (which I am not even close to doing, of course), I would say one thread per year with the daily lists and then threads discussing news items worthy of further discussion...but not so many that the board is overwhelmed. Maybe one or two good subjects per week but not limited to that in case there is a lot of "breaking news" for discussion.

I can't see the need for this thread -- will block it after this post. There are many excellent sources for daily casino industry news, which anyone can find with a Google search. Many websites are devoted to producing exactly the type of daily list that the OP is providing here. The days of filtering content for non-savvy readers are long gone, I'm thinking 1997 or so since a thread like this was useful.

I cannot imagine the motivation for these article lists, though one can certainly speculate. Benevolence would be at the bottom of my list of reasons.

Hi AxelWolf,

We both agree Once a year is looking good?
And Not (NEVER or once a year is looking good).

I still agree with you (Once a year is looking good) but not (NEVER or once a year is looking good).

You must have a side bet to see how many people you can piss off in a month.

looks like you might set a record for most votes in a poll. Sounds suspicious to me. Do we even have 42 members who vote on this site?

I will hazard a guess that because he is posting from Asia he realized most of us will be seeing it on the 12th but his time of posting will be the 11th.

EDIT: the other possibility that comes to mind is he realized May 11th is the Spring Fling and nobody attending that day will probably be paying attention to the threads when most of the major posters are face to face around dinner

What is the function of this one thread, just to link to gambling news stories? What is the supposed nefarious motive for doing so?

To me, this seems perfectly sensible for a thread idea, then you make a new one every year so it doesn’t get too long. Some people read my, “News and Notes,” articles which are basically a rundown of recent gaming news.

Is there a reason that the US AP’s shouldn’t even want gambling to be discussed in anyway whatsoever? I can understand why they wouldn’t want plays discussed...but nothing gambling? Shall we have 87 more political threads? Should we create a new thread each time Trump tweets something?

I also find the concept of participating at a gambling forum in which I don’t want the subject of gambling discussed to be a quite unique thing.

No Mission, the problem stems from a previous posting of multiple similar threads so that even one thread now seems to grate on everyone's nerves.

All the threads had a similar title e.g. "news 04/02", "news 04/03", "news 04/04" etc so all the threads at first glance seem one and the same of the initial problem.

When you(Mission) post your news on here it comes with thoughts on what makes it personal to you. Which generates discussion. I personally miss your posting here and have no problem if you did a news link because you would discuss the news most likely

With these threads there has not been one iota of discussion beyond the initial link except to discuss how averse everyone is to the original post.

Has that ever happened with any of your initial posts? I dont think so.

With forum current threads listing so small, space is at a premium. Every time you log on its easy to see the most lively conversations going on. A "news link of the day" seems like a method to keep one of the OPs threads artificially inserted into the current conversation.

The Never Ending Horse Thread was a fantastic and wishful title but even that convo has died down. The Vulturing UX thread stood prominently for almost 2 years I think. All because people wanted to talk about it and post. Again this just reeks of an artificial method for keeping a thread current

Darkoz,

Sounds good, I wasn’t aware of the issue with previous daily news threads, (completely unnecessary) but this seems like a reasonable remedial measure. Honestly, a single thread of this nature would be kind of helpful to me, personally, because while I’m aware of and visit multiple gaming news aggregates, this would be pretty quick since I’m here anyway.

Even if I only click one out of twenty links, still pretty helpful.

I’ll be continuing to do News and Notes, and thanks for the compliment! Hopefully the thread on here will generate genuine discussion, but if not, it’ll drop from Recent Threads daily simply by virtue of people not responding to it. At least the thread title will have, “Gambling,” in it...most people looking at Recent Threads probably think they got a URL redirect to Wizardofpolitics.com.

I guess my issue with the theory that MrCasinoGames just wants to have a thread perpetually riding the high line is twofold:

1. How does that actually benefit him?

AND:

2. Could he not accomplish the same thing just by creating threads with different subjects?

Number 2 is easy to answer. Yes. Its actually what the rest of us do.

Number 1 seems harder to answer and has been asked by others.

At one point the daily news threads had a link to Mr. Casino Games sites and so spamming for advertising purposes seemed possible. He dropped that part of the posts when complaints started coming in.

As someone who enjoys attention (I am sure I have been accused on here myself) its possible he just gets the thrill of seeing his threads listed daily. I am certain when your news and notes keeps appearing with conversation there is a small thrill that you have knowing you are generating discussion. People are talking about something you brought to their attention. That could be the simple motive here

I guess that’s kind of my point with #1 if he’s not pimping his own sites in the thread anymore. Everyone seems to be accusing him of having some nefarious motive for creating a gambling news link aggregate thread, but nobody seems to offer any suggestions as to what that motive might be.

As to the rest, just wanting thread views and responses doesn’t seem nefarious at all. It seems like some people were suggesting a potential motive over and above that.

I just figure if it’s kept to an annual thread, Members who are uninterested can just block the thread. Visitors will see it and will either follow it or just not look at it again.

I didn’t know anything about the saga until today and still don’t, but whatever it could possibly be, a single gambling news aggregate thread with no links to MCG’s site seems like a perfectly reasonable solution.

Correct in theory.

Politics of WOV is the poison from the saga is difficult to overcome.

Think Nathan and how people still bring up her male name association. She actually asked Wizard for her own personalized thread, received permission and still gets a lot of flak on here.

On WOV it seems easy to destroy any credibility but incredibly difficult to rebuild it

Yes and no.

He posted a link to news from today by singling just one out and making that the headline.

Harrahs had crowds rushing to their soft opening.

I hope this isn't a workaround where we get dozens of linking threads on a daily basis to avoid the appearance of spamming with daily linking threads in the main title
