I arrive Monday around 4pm and depart Friday around 9 pm. My mom is coming with me, but probably won't be joining us for dinner.

I'm leaving town Thursday night. If we have our event on Thursday, I'd be constantly looking at the time. I suspect others would do the same.

Therefore, I voted for both Tuesday and Wednesday. Either would be fine by me.

On the other hand, G2E ends at 5:00 on Tuesday & Wednesday but 3:00 on Thursday, so maybe Thursday isn't that bad of an option.

In prior years, Galaxy Gaming had a party Tuesday evening and we did our thing on Wednesday. They did not have their party last year, but I suspect that with all the management changes over there, they may revive it. Or at least may be considering it. I have no mole there so I really don't know. Does anybody else have and inside info?

Of course, there may be other evening events that some of us may want to attend. Therefore, until we know something, I suggest we hold off our decision until October.

For a venue, I again suggest Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill in Harrah's. Last year they wouldn't take a reservation because they already had a big group booked. We ended up at a wide counter separating the bar from the dance floor. That actually worked well for us. The only problem is that they open at 5:00, making Thursday a bad option. Note that their live entertainment doesn't start until 9:00. If we're not tearing up the casino floor by then, that would certainly be our cue to do so!

For the record, I arrive in town at around 11pm on Thursday 10/10. I'll be attending the Summit that weekend. I've always wanted to attend that event, even back when it was called PodcastPalooza. FYI: For a couple years it was called VIMFP: Vegas Internet Mafia Family Picnic. The organizers behind it is the Vegas Nerd Society.

Anybody else attending the Summit?

I'm thinking about going to G2E this year. Never been before so suggestions on how to get max benefit from it with minimal pain would be welcome. Would definitely be interested in a meet-up is one comes together. Not 100% certain yet I'll make the trip but figured I would make the plans anyway. I can get a couple nights comped at Luxor, NY-NY, or Park but I haven't been to Las Vegas in a long long time so not sure how they rank. Any recommendations?

Max benefit really depends on what you’re interested in. After registering, they provide an app which can help in pre-planning.

Personally, I just wonder the floor, looking for companies that are in the game distribution business, and find somebody to talk to about my games and hand them literature.

Often, I end up wandering the floor with another WOV member. Although it’s a big convention, if you’re there for all three days, you can pretty much hit every area as long as you don’t spend too much time at any booth.

Regarding a hotel, you’re much better off picking a hotel near the Sands convention center. Personally, are usually pick Harrahs. An alternative, is to use an east side strip location such as the MGM Grand, then monorail it to the Harrah’s stop, and go in through the back entrance to Venetian.

Parking at Venetian is really not an option. With most of the vendors being from the Las Vegas area, booth staff tends to be locals who will be driving in and filling up the parking lot at Venetian. Cabs and Uber are an alternative, but are in high/over demand at the start and end of each day.

Thanks for the invite Steve.

Here’s an idea:

Why not just meet up at Steve’s booth?

Frankly, I have reason to believe that Galaxy’s hospitality will be somewhat limited - to the point that maybe we shouldn’t hang out there.

James Holtzhauer will play Jeopardy! against G2E attendees at IGT booth.

Fortunately, I stumbled upon this during the hours of this event. I didn't know about it before.

I couldn't resist to be humbled by James. Of course, I was. It didn't help any that the categories were sports and rap & hip hop.

On the good side, you can see from the picture I wrote "Wizard of Odds" for my name. That is also how the announcer stated it. After the game, James asked if I was the one behind my web site. I said I was. He then complimented me on my Las Vegas Sports Book Groups page. I told him I wrote extensively about his run, analyzing his strategy, and he said he would have a look for it.

I knew I was going to get killed by James, but I'm happy he was aware of me, or at least my site.

Later, today, I passed by and they were letting any three random people play. I went against two people I didn't know, and again lost. Never hit the buzzer a single time. Lots of sports questions and another hip-hop one, which are among my worst categories. There was one on TV sitcoms, but I just didn't know the "answer." The announcer remarked, "The odds for the Wizard of Odds aren't looking very good." He was right.

As far as I could tell, the equipment used was the same type as on the show. In the unlikely event I ever get on, I think the experience will help me at least know a little of what to expect.
