DESCRIPTION: Blackjack-Flush™ Bonus
Blackjack-Flush is a card game designed to be played as a blackjack side bet.
The object of the game is to have the player's first card match the suit of the dealer's first card.

RULES
1. The game is played using 1-8 standard 52-card decks.

2. Aces are high and 2’s are low.

3. To begin, the player makes his wager.

4. The dealer deals two cards face up, one to the player and one to himself.

5. If the suits of the two cards are different, the player loses his wager. Otherwise, the player wins and is paid on his wager based on the ranks of the 2 cards.

The following is a list of all winning

Scenarios: (6 deck)
 Flush Low: The rank of the player’s card is lower than the rank of the dealer’s card. Pays 2 to 1.

 Flush High: The rank of the player’s card is higher than the rank of the dealer’s card. Pays 3 to 1.

 Flush Pair: The rank of the player’s card is the same as the rank of the dealer’s card. 8 to 1

To analyze the game, a program was written in Java to cycle through and evaluate all possible permutational outcomes of the game. The following is an outline of the steps executed by the program:

1. Cycle through all 52 * 52 = 2704 ways to deal the dealer’s card versus the player’s card.
2. For each of the permutations of step 1, determine the number of ways that permutation can be dealt using 1-8 decks of cards.
3. Evaluate the two-card permutation of step 1 and determine the outcome. Keep a running tally of the results.

After running the program, the number of permutations of each unique outcome was known. These numbers, along with the various pay tables for the game, were used to calculate the expected value (EV)1 of the player’s wager. The negative of the EV corresponds to the house’s edge.

How could you play this SD at stated ? or perhaps why would you ? If I play 8 hands then I can expect to lose 6 hands and win two. One I will beat the dealer, One I won't 2 to 1 and 3 to 1 return $5 and after taking my $6 loss I am stuck $1.
That is 12.5% HE on a side bet with max payout of $3. To say nothing on the long streaks when facing a bet that loses 3 out of 4 hands !!!
Or am I missing something ??

buzzpaff,

You are missing the Flush Pair pay out at 8 to 1.
Flush Pair: The rank of the player’s card is the same as the rank of the dealer’s card. 8 to 1

Yes, buzzpaff

You are right on this one.
There is different payout schedules for different numbers of decks being used

For the single deck: there is a Flush-Straight instead of pair-flush, below is the description of Flush-Straight and pay-out.

Flush-Straight: The player’s card and the dealer’s card form a two-card straight, i.e. any
two consecutive cards or an ace and a deuce. Order does not matter. Pays 6 to 1. Single
deck games only.

Since you're both creating new terms as well as using poker terms, I suggest calling the Flush-Straight, a "Suited Connector" or "Suited Connected", terms used in Hold-Em to describe what you're talking about.

I would have call it Straight-Flush, if not for the reason given below:

The name of the concept is call Blackjack-Flush (Flush Bonus Blackjack) therefore the hand rankings are all start with Flush-xxx, and that is why is call Flust-Straight hand not Straight-Flush.

I do like the name Connector.
In one of my other game (Casino 2-Card Action!), there is a hand I call "Connector", I will post the game here soon for suggestions, for improvement indeed any feedback.

Thanks again DJTeddyBear
