I'll be on a big family trip with the kids and in-laws to the Jersey shore the last week of August and plan to take a day trip to AC to check things out. I usually stay and gamble at MGM properties when I'm in Vegas and haven't ever signed up for the TR program. Is there any particular benefit to signing up online vs waiting to do it later in person?

personally, generally speaking with casinos, I've always run into a glitch signing up online: you can't complete it till you show up.
so I would not bother with signing up online unless there is a specific claim that something is available that way that will not be available by waiting. Otherwise you'd be just initiating something to be completed later that saves you almost nothing in the way of time involved. IMO.

the next time Dame Fortune toys with your heart, your soul and your wallet, raise your glass and praise her thus: “Thanks for nothing, you cold-hearted, evil, damnable, nefarious, low-life, malicious monster from Hell!” She is, after all, stone deaf. ... Arnold Snyder

I agree, unless then are giving extra free play I would wait. Also sometimes they run promos that are only good for 24 hours. Not sure if doing it online messes with those.
Expect the worst and you will never be disappointed.
