Before today, my site had a video poker game return calculator, a play for free game, and a strategy maker. The only thing missing was a hand calculator. So, my faithful programmer JB just did one and it is available for beta testing. So, please have a look at my new video poker hand analyzer. One use for this is if you are ever playing, and get a tough hand, just put the game, pay table, and cards into it, and it will tell you the right play. Speaking of which, we are planning an iPhone app too.
As always, I welcome comments, corrections, questions, and all the jazz.

Fantastic! I hope you're planning on charging for the app, because I think it would be worth it. I'd pay up to 4.99 for such an app.

Looks good to me. The 5 aces don't include the 5th Ace. If you have a hand with a joker and you click back and select a game with no jokers, you get an error and cannot get rid of the joker. That's it for now.
And now to start diversifying tomorrow. :+)

Thanks for the comments thus far. Yes, I would charge for the app. Y'all will also get a chance to beta test it for free, if I can find a way how.
Good catch on the jokers miplet.

A VP analyzer app is an excellent idea - but where could you use it without the risk of the casino's security force doing one or both of (a) taking your iPhone and (b) banning you from VP?

IWinPoker ($6) may have beaten you to it, although I don't know what games it handles or if you can enter your own pay tables.

Do you have any more info about this app? A search for "IWinPoker" in the app store returned no results.

I have WinPoker for the iphone. It analyzes hands for built in or user added paytables, calculates expected returns, and has a training mode.
Vegas Chatter just ran a story about the app.

Not sure how easy this is to do, but you could make your app really stand out by having a "test" mode. The trainer is great but gives you random hands so 90% of the hands are obvious how to play. If you had a mode that just gave you more difficult or rarely seen decisions that would help a player get stronger a lot quicker as these hands dont come up often enough on randomly dealt hands, and maybe another test where it is all penalty card situations. The fact that it is missing this is my main beef with winpoker, although Dancer's VP software for the computer does have such a mode.

I've used winPoker on the Ipad. It is awesome, for working out best plays for situations, plus also generating expected returns based on pay tables/rules.
Worth the $10 I paid for it.

We may be talking about two different apps.
(The one I link to does have an I at the start of it.)
EDIT: No, it's the same app - the link on the page I link to points to the main WinPoker site. I guess they changed the name when they came out with the Android version, so people wouldn't think it was only for the iPhone.

I assume you perfected your app, because when I opened it on my laptop it popped up a window for "Java Applet". Not a very technical person, but I just updated Java, so not sure why it did this on both computers, 2 versions of windows. Works on either without problem..but guessing the changes you made is why it will no longer open on my phone (Android OS) and gives me an error message saying requires Java. Would love to know when the app will be available for the Smartphone market, have no problem paying for it.
Thanks for sharing your vast knowledge!! It's great that I can go to either website and find everything I need to know about my games of choice!
