I was watching a Slotmassacre (yes, I admit it) and A.P. Baguley is playing Triple Double and notices the payout for both a Straight Flush and 4 5-Kings is lower per coin-in on a max bet than lower bet sizes. Here's a screen shot:

The red column is for 5 coins (the max on that machine).

This was new to me. Is this a known thing??

There are casinos who lower the payout to avoid W2Gs on those wins.

You are cheating yourself when playing those games but you do avoid the W2G.

That makes sense. It was a $5 game and that would put both payouts at $1,195, just below the W2G limit.

I'm going to guess this paytable was at Pechanga in California. An Indian owned casino.

In a totally honest world you are correct.

Technically you are cheating the tax man because I assume those wins that would put you over the threshold are not reported now.

I know quite a few people who would consider pocketing the extra bucks that would normally go the the tax man as a means of rewarding oneself, not cheating oneself.

But from a strictly gambling pov, yes, you are cheating yourself by playing those.

Of course even non W2G wins are reported on your tax returns.

Of course they are.

I think it was Red Garter in West Wendover, NV. At least that's the sign showing as he pulls away at the end of the trip.

And to further make your point, this reduced the EV from 98.15% to 97.78%.

Some casinos that have the 239 payout on $5 machines have the same payout on the $10 machines which makes no sense since it’s a taxable anyways.
